Am I the only feeling like Gaming is getting boring these days?

I personally find this comment a bit targeted… I’m not scrolling or playing games excessively I’m just living life. have you thought that people might be getting bored or unmotivated with videogames because they have other stuff to do or that their mental health is bad. It’s not just scrolling that is causing boredom with videogames. For me personally it’s the lack of new exciting games, that I want to play none of them seem interesting to me… -.-
It definitely wasn't targeted. I didn't reply to anyone in particular, and I was just sharing my general opinions on the topic. If you took it personally, that was not my intention and sadly there is nothing I can do about it, but I'm sorry you felt targeted regardless.

For me, it's hard to be excited when gaming is becoming so expensive. 500+ for the switch 2, 80+ dollars for the games. In this economy, we're drowning. What used to be a "sometimes" expensive hobby is becoming almost unmanageable, which is why I think a lot of people are struggling mentally with gaming. I don't know that I consider it -boring- persay, but def hard to get excited about.

I think for a lot of us, we also have 'competitive' brain with a lot of games and I think that creates burn out super fast and makes things feel boring or dreaded? I don't know, that might just be me. :3

There are games I'm for sure excited about, but not like I might have been a few years ago.

I’m currently looking forward to the release of Pokémon Legends AZ and Shantae: Risky Revolution. I’m also saving up to buy a Switch 2 and hopefully there will be a new bundle other than the Mario Kart which I don’t want since I’m not really into racing games. Mario Kart is perfectly fine to play with a bunch of friends but I mostly play solo and the game just doesn’t feel as fun. Same goes with Mario Party. Super Mario Party is pretty much the only game in the series that I actually have fun playing by myself.

I don't think gaming is boring perse, but I agree that it's hard to want to buy new consoles and games when they're so expensive, especially in the economy we're stuck in today. There's no Switch 2 game that remotely interests me besides Tomodachi Life, but even then I still wouldn't buy it. As much as I enjoyed New Horizons and Tears of the Kingdom, I was disappointed with certain aspects of them and hoped that the future of Nintendo would be better... :cautious:

Personally, gaming was much more exciting as a kid than it is now. I was discovering new games left and right, I was so excited to get home from school to play on my Wii. Nowadays, I struggle to even pick up a game (mostly due to mental health issues and time constraints). I have all the games I want now, it's just a matter of getting the motivation to play them.

I prefer older games anyway, so I'll stick to those. Not to mention that I have a ton of games to beat.

My main reason for wanting to buy a Switch 2 within the first year of release is to play Wind Waker and other GameCube games as it’s the one of two Nintendo consoles I’ve never got to play very much of with the Wii U being the one I’ve never even tried out. I was out of high school when the GC was at its peak and didn’t have any friends that had a GC and I didn’t have the money or an apartment of my own to get one. And now the games for the console are way too expensive for me which is very strange as you can easily get a working GC for under $80 on eBay and Facebook with controllers but a game will cost you $80 just for the disk. I have wanted to play WW for years but didn’t see the point of getting a Wii U just to play the game and I didn’t have enough money at the time to buy a GameCube, memory card, and the game itself from the retro gaming store.

I wouldn't say boring so much as there's a lot more of executive meddling and corporate greed that hinders games from becoming what they could've been back when the market was much more niche.

Greed almost caused the collapse of the early gaming era with the NES and every company trying to get a piece of the profit without really putting much thought into it. So there was a lot of trash games that polluted the industry and then everyone backed out saying it was a novelty that was going to die out.

It's kind of repeating itself by pushing out games that aren't complete or stripped down compared to its previous entries, or expecting people to pay for 'beta' games with micro-transactions/dlc to get the full game. It's less about making a game that's enjoyable and can hold the test of time and more about short term growth for shareholders who have no interest in games and more about $$$.

It's why a game like Scarlet and Violet was pushed out before it was completed or we were expected to wait a year and half for NH to get anywhere near close to base game compared to its previous entries. So it definitely feels like the passion isn't there anymore. The creators probably want to pour their hearts into the games and tell a story that their audience and future gamers will cherish, but the shareholders and businessmen stunt their creativity and want to keep pushing the status quo and as a result something of quality has to drop.

The FF7 remakes could've been something amazing, but instead we get a really confusing retelling of a story that didn't need to be retold differently. Especially when they try to throw multiverse shenanigans in it. No one asked for that. Not those that played the original and new gamers would get lost with the abridged version of the stories retelling.

Same here! I wish I could get that simple enjoyment of games back. Even though the graphics now are better than ever and some games have a ton of depth and such, it's hard to get into them. As a kid it was like anything goes, and it was a great time

It makes sense why you would feel that way about modern gaming. I feel like as we get older with this hobby, we're exposed to more and more games good and bad. We'll always be chasing that "good" game. A game that is boring might because you're really not in the mood for the type of game you're playing at the moment, or you can't commit to it because you've got a boat load of stuff going on in your life.

There's also just... so... many... games... in this day and age. It's hard to sift through the good and bad.

For me, it's not getting boring but I do get frustrated trying to find games that I like and can play. I don't have much skill and my hand/eye coordination is not good, so games requiring quick reflexes and ability to parry are so hard for me (Breath of the Wild--I can't defeat guardians, can't advance, *sob*). But I loved Guardians of Azuma and Harvestella. There is farming in those and combat, but the combat isn't too difficult.

There are still plenty of games I want to play but haven't gotten to, so I'm not finding it boring! Sometimes I can play every day, and sometimes it could be once or twice a week, just depending on what else is going on and how I'm feeling. I think I'm a pretty casual player in that I rarely replay the same game, I'm not much of a completionist, and I switch between games all the time before I've finished one. I play a lot of different games but I don't necessarily finish them all, but it doesn't make me enjoy playing them any less!

There are still so many games I have that I want to get to - some that I've popped in briefly to get a feel for, and others that I'm a good way through, but have put down for some reason. 😅

I wouldn't personally say it's gotten boring for myself, but moreso it's hard for my attention span. I used to be able to sit for hours and play a game, but now I get on, do whatever "dailies" the game has (if any), and then feel bored. It does make me sad, because I /want/ to play games, but just can't find the motivation. Also, after working 8 years at a desk, sitting at a computer almost feels like a chore. ^^;; I find it a little easier to play a game if it's on my switch or steam deck.

Also, I feel like games are pushed out SO fast these days. I don't even try to keep up anymore. There's so many games that people get so hyped about, and then those games die within a month or two. :') It's just so much.

Have you looked into games that fall into "cozy gaming" genre? Generally if you look up the terms "cozy games" "cozy gaming" etc, there's a lot of lists and recommendations of games that should meet your criteria, lots of farming games on there as you've played already, but occasionally some other types as well. I'm like you, not super skilled in games, so I use these kinds of lists to find new non-stressful things to play. (Sorry if you're already aware of this kind of thing!! Don't mean to be annoying.)

Yes, I like cozy games but I also like combat. I love skillessly mashing a button and beating up on monsters in games that are rated E and T. I don't want to fight people and I didn't enjoy the more realistic combat of Skyrim, where you're constantly being attacked by hungry wolves and having to kill them. So that's the problem--I like combat but I'm not very good at it. I love Animal Crossing and Dreamlight Valley but I also love Harvestella and Guardians of Azuma and Mineko's Night Market. You're not annoying at all--I appreciate the reply. :-)

I consider myself to be a casual gamer. I enjoy gaming but im not the type to play as passionatly as some people do. Right now I've been on a visual novel kick. So it all depends on my mood, and what I'm feeling like Im in the mood for.

But its not a bad thing that your more motivated to take care of yourself, and balance yourself. In general that's really positive with or without being a gamer! It's important to develope a healthy balance after all.
i feel like im in a boat where im very passionate with playing games and stuff but not too much to the point im wavedashing

does "hardcore casual" make sense? trying to make a word that fits the way i feel about playing video games

I love the gaming scene right now, if I'm being honest! So this hasn't really been my experience at all.

I also have a backlog of (20+) games which I'm playing through. I do get burnt out, though, and I go back to playing Animal Crossing (as my go-to comfort and cozy game). I love grabbing my 3DS and going to a café near my appt and just chilling for a while. But otherwise, I feel like I'm just drowning in great games (and with little time to play them, lol).

This year alone: Mario Kart World, Donkey Kong Bananza, Fantasy Life i, Kirby Air Riders, Witchbrook (OMG), Paralives (OMG x2), Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines 2, Digimon Story: Time Stranger, Demon School, Final Fantasy Tactics remaster, and more...

Not to mention all the games I've been playing from my backlog and games that I haven't played (and that have released already): Pikmin 4, Trace Memory for Switch, Grandia, Cyberpunk 2077 (recently replayed this and spent 100h on it, lol).

What games are you usually into? Just RPGs? If you're like me, I also get RPG fatigue (they're also more demanding and longer than your average game).

You could maybe try shorter games. If you're into "cozy" and chill games, let me know, and I can send some recommendations your way :)
