I could tolerate waterbugs, but those pesky mole crickets that keep spawning... I hate it. I gave up on my tarantula island attempt last night.

Mole Crickets don't affect tarantula spawns. Just ignore them.

Ive had none on my own island yet, only one on a mystery island, knew they were 2k bells each so filled up my inventory as it was a really rubbish island apart from them!

The spiral island has a lot of them but it's still possible to farm tarantulas there with patience. I was also able to farm tarantulas on a normal island. It just required catching a lot of *shiver* waterbugs to generate new spawns. It took probably 2x as long as before the darn things showed up, so it's definitely annoying, but not impossible to farm tarantulas now.

On the plus side, I really love scaring away tiger beetles. I charge at them and when they bounce away in crazy directions it looks so hilarious to me!

I had a ton on a mystery island the other night and filled my inventory with them, they fetch some good bells...I have become a tool snob, at this point I will only use my tools to catch fish/bugs that can get me at least 1000 bells

They're easy to miss. They stay in the water and often attach themselves to the river banks, so if you're on the wrong side of the bank they're invisible. When they're across from you on the other side of the river you can see their disgusting little rumps sticking out of the water. Presumptively this is because the are sticking their terrible faces in the water so they can devour whatever unfortunate thing happens to swim by. *shiver*

Oh gosh, I'll have to look around my rivers more then. These waterbugs definitely sound awful and I'm not looking forward to finding them. I'm assuming they scatter if I vault over the river to the other side?

actually they never scatter. I think they maybe the only bug that is completely indifferent to any behavior from the player. So cheeky.
