My New Leaf cartridge has been acting up for a while now and it appears to only be getting worse. Sometimes my 3DS will not recognise the game when it is put in the system and it will be blank where the icon is meant to be.

I've done a bit of research and found out I can use a save transfer tool to move my data to a digital version. So I'm thinking of buying the digital game and doing that.

I guess I'd just like some advice and opinions. Has anyone used this data transfer tool before and does the digital version of New Leaf have any bugs and can it be corrupted?

I've used the transfer tool. It's pretty easy. You can't change your mind later, though. The cartridge will be reset to factory, so you may be able to start a second village on it if wiping it fixes the problems.

The digital version is pretty much identical. I haven't noticed any digital-specific bugs. It can corrupt the same as the cartridge, usually if you interrupt the saving process. It can also corrupt if you mess with your SD card. It's never happened to me, though. I only take the SD card out on rare occasions to transfer my pictures and stuff to my computer. Just be sure the power is off before you take the SD card out.

Thanks! Yeah I've heard of digital copies corrupting when the SD card is messed with so I know you have to be really careful. I was hoping that and powering off during saving are the only ways it can happen.

So it turns out the cartridge was just dirty and that was what was causing the issues. I just cleaned the prongs with a cotton tip and a tiny bit of rubbing alcohol and so far it has worked perfectly *crosses fingers*

Looks like the transfer won't be necessary after! :D
