SO, I have been a strictly Nintendo gamer for a long time. While I love their games and franchises so very much, I really want to expand my gaming tastes, if you would. I was wondering what you guys think of Sony as a company, The Playstation consoles and what types of games are on it. If I like what I hear, I'll think about investing in a PS4! So please take your time to comment and give me some info!! Thanks!!

I feel as though I'm in your position as well. I'm a Nintendo gamer and I'm kind of interested in the Playstation 4, but I don't know many games that would interest me. Only LittleBigPlanet and Parappa the Rapper catch my interest, and I have an aversion to gory violence.

I'm sorry I couldn't answer your question, I just wanted to say that I'm in the same position as you are.

You literally are in the exact same position as me! Hopefully someone will come to the thread and give us some info!

Sticking to one gaming company is silly. =p

There are casual games on both the ps3 and the xbox360 currently, if you don't want to go towards the more mature ones.
PC gaming is also there, if you have the means of running games on your computer. But if you're planning on getting a Ps4, I'd wait until they start announcing more games. It's starting to be a popular trend for gaming consoles to come out, and then not have games for like a year. (cough ps3 cough 3ds cough wii u).

Ya it is silly, and I'm definitely like casual games more than the mature ones. But does Sony deliver when it comes to casual games?

But does Sony deliver when it comes to casual games?

Flower, Journey, Ratchet and Clank(cartoony violence), LittleBigPlanet, and some of the classic ones on the psn store would be Rayman, Spyro, Mega Man. And multi-platform titles like Portal(via the Orange Box), Portal 2.

Thee are a good bit there to choose from, more than what I listed.

They've got some pretty good ones yeah, not to mention the increase in indie games so there's going to be plenty of things to play on the PS4 come release hopefully.

If you're a Nintendo fan, I'm assuming you're a fan of platformers. One of the PS4's launch titles, Knack is precisely that.

PS3 saw a lot of great IPs surface: Sly Cooper 4, Resistance, Infamous, Little Big Planet, Ratchet and Clank, 3D Dot Heroes, Uncharted, and a slew of Nintendo-style downloadable indie games. It was also a great hub for exclusive RPGs like Ni No Kuni and Tales of Graces f. They typically revive old franchises with HD Collections of former franchises like Jak and Daxter. Speaking strictly about Sony IPs, they usually strike a good balance between casual and mature games. You'll also be able to access the third party titles Nintendo doesn't offer, such as Darksiders which plays similarly to Zelda but is a much darker and mature plot about angels and demons. Don't get too scared off by mature games, there are plenty that aren't excessively violent, and you could be missing out on interesting gameplay styles like Metal Gear Solid. But Sony has a good history of making games that support various gamers. A PS4 would also allow you to access future titles like Kingdom Hearts 3 as well.

PS3 also has a few more titles coming, such as the creative platformer Puppeteer, a few more HD Collections, Tales of Xilia, and more mature titles like Beyond Two Souls.

PS fan here- the PS3 should naturally drop in price when the 4 releases. The PS3 library is quite epic (see various reputable gaming sites for genre recommendations) & in terms of PS4 compatability, a bit questionable w/ Sony's cloud service. Are ALL publishers on board? How will the rollout be decided? + membership will play a big part- though how much is unclear. What was made public is:

The cloud will be running in 2014 (no quarter announced).

Final points to consider- digital games have generally been more expensive than the physical counterpart. While HDs are cheap, PS3 titles can weigh in the 20 gig range.

The PS3 is a solid console to own ALONG w/ the 4; it will be cheap by early 2014 & their titles can be found in the bargin section.

Happy gaming everybody!

This is some really great advice and info, guys! I really appreciate and I can totally see why the Playstation has been doing so well. I'm on the verge still after seeing ben_nyc's comment about owning both since I know the PS4 isn't backwards compatible with PS3 games. I would love to see more comments though, and thanks for your help!

I'm buying a PS4 when I can afford it~
Like seriously how am I gonna live without my Kingdom Hearts 3 D=

In the last gen I only had a Wii but I had owned a PS2 before that. This time I'm gonna get a PS4, maybe PS3 if I get the money.

Benmjy, unless there's a PS4 title you must play ASAP- then you should wait. Titles like The Last of Us (just released) makes the PS3 a console worth owning. Good luck!

I've decided to go for the PS3 and reserve Kingdom Hearts 1.5 HD! I'm so excited to get one because I know that Sony has a lot to offer and their future is looking very bright, especially after this years E3!! I know there are a ton of new franchises waiting for me to play them and I can't wait!! Thanks for all your help everyone!

When I was a year in wii I got a ps3 and it's my favorite system and I'm more excited for ps4 then I was ever with Wii U welcome to the expanded family! :D

Being loyal to one company is fine, as I have been loyal to Nintendo since the NES when it first came out, and I've got almost every system they have released since then. (I refused to buy the GBA micro) it was too small for me to play, but I have always believed in owning other systems as well. and I've owned quite a few over the years, as a gamer it is always best to have a wide variety to choose from and having multiple systems is a great way to have that variety. Now about buying a PS4 I say GO FOR IT. mainly because I've also been a fan of Microsoft since the first xbox came, but everything I have read and seen about the new xbox one coming out this year makes me want to run and scream away from microsoft as quick as possible, so I personally want to see everyone buy Nintendo and Sony products for the latest consoles and leave microsoft in the dust. LOL

Thanks! From the help of ben_nyc (Thanks so much, BTW!) and my own research the system looks truly amazing! I bet I'll become as big a fan for Sony that I am for Nintendo!

Trust me, from what I have heard about the (seemingly stupid) Xbox One, Microsoft deserves to be trampled and left in the dust. I mean look at this article. Microsoft really needs to get their act together. It's no wonder people are hating on them.
