Thief Advice?

I'd have just let him finish, he just wanted to make some profit on his turnips.
I'm not as strict though, I don't mind if someone takes some fruit from the trees etc. (It grows back.)
I did a little social experiment elsewhere, someone was selling turnips and said no entry fee but tips were welcome. I didn't leave a tip and they shut off the trade. It just made me think whats the point in saying no entry fee if there actually really is one, disguised as tips.
In reality I prefer to wait for the prices to spike in my own town before selling.

It's fine if people want to let people take their fruit or use their turnip trade for free.
I, however, am of the opinion that I'm sat with my dodo open for the whole afternoon, then it's not going to hurt you to drop me a little bit of the profit you've made. They will make 500k if they've brought 1000+ turnips, someone asking for 50k or even 100k isn't that bad. I'm happy to pay people fees for turnip selling if it's sensible. Let's help each other get rich, no?
And I'm not hiding my fees as tips. I'm upfront about it being a fee.
