These hybrids are going to be the death of me

I spent hours and hours rearranging flowers into a diamond pattern with every combination of flowers that I found on a hybrid guide. I have the gold watering can and watered them all. I had saved flowers I bought from the garden store to be sure they weren't half bloods. Well...

All day long the villagers planted flowers and messed up my combinations. Has anyone found that the villagers are planting a good combination and I should leave them? Or should I rearrange them?

I'm beginning to wonder if island flowers breed? Does anyone know? They didn't breed on the island but I thought it was just a property of the island. But today, I got ONE hybrid. I've wondered about the island flowers for a while and with everything watered with the gold can, good combinations and the Town Ordinance set to "Beautiful", I'm wondering if I'm right.

I also wondered if there was an amount of time that flowers have to stay in one place to start to breed. Does anyone know?

And one last question. I have to turn off the Beautiful Town ordinance to get gold flowers, right? Because the black roses won't wilt otherwise? Mind you, I'll probably never get a black rose, but just in case I finally figure out the hybrid thing.

Villagers just plant flowers of the same species near each other, I usually put them with their "hybrid pair", or put them on the beach.

No idea about the island, mine only has palm trees.

They can breed everyday starting from day one, it's completely random.

I'm using this guide http://au.ign.com/wikis/animal-crossing-new-leaf/Flowers and so far it's been right though I'm still working on many. I have pink, purple, orange and black roses. Pink, orange and black tulips. Orange pansies. Pink, black and orange lillies. Blue violets. Orange and pink Cosmos.

A HUGE portion of my town (maybe 30%) is devoted to hybrid breeding areas.

I've been using the Thonky Guide that has more combinations, but most are similar. I get Black Tulips from two orange tulips. I haven't seen it listed on any guide, but it has happened twice.

I have a ton of orange pansies - I seem to get those easy.

You know, I used the Thonky guides for so much other stuff when I started playing but didn't even bother to look at the hybrid guide there! Thanks for the reminder!

My villagers must be secret gardeners. Rudy planted two flowers near his and Celia's home, not sure if Lillie's or violets, but the next day, after being watered, they grew a blue hybrid. The only one who seems to not understand how to make flowers seems to be Cesar. My garden consists of Red x Yellow patterned flowers because I like the look of orange ones. Cesar makes it known that he doesn't like that by adding a random white flower in. But he does make me pink hybrids

I move the flowers that the villagers plant. It is so annoying. I arranged over fifty of my hybrids in a checkerboard pattern, and I have to keep pulling up the flowers that they plant.

Also, the island is static, so you can't grow hybrids on it.

Can anyone confirm though that the flowers you bring back from the island will make hybrids in your town? I brought back boat loads full (literally).
