There's a new glitch that I think hasn't been discussed yet

Hi everyone. I've been using amiibo to get new villagers into my town. This is now the second time this has happened to me.

I invited goldie from the campsite and she replaced hazel. However, she was living in hazel's exterior house, but the inside of her house was different. At first I thought that maybe they were just similar? But now I've invited Purrl to my island via amiibo and now the same thing has happened.

I invited purrl and kicked out Claudia. Now Claudias house is very pink.

So when I see this,

I knew I made the same mistake again.

So here's how I did it. On the 3rd day of inviting the camper via time travel, when they agree to move in, I tt back to the original date. When you go to their home, they say they're out playing or whatever even though they are not on the island yet. I tt a day a forward and they are in boxes, moving in. There's never an empty plot between this process. I don't know if this glitch will ever be patched so I guess my only choice would be to invite more campers to the campsite to replace them, then invite them again to not make the same mistake.

It's frustrating but I'm posting this to share awareness to not make the same mistake!!

My understanding is because you TT backwards. Up until now, I’ve never had this issue because I think you can combat this glitch if you TT forwards.

So you have them in boxes? Go TT forward one day. There should be an empty plot that either has been sold or you can recruit someone. TT forward again, OH LOOK! HI NEW FRIEND IN BOXES! TT forward once more and they should be out and about exploring your island.

As long as you TT forward during their moving process, you can avoid this. Once they’ve fully moved in and are exploring your island, you can THEN go back to whatever day you want.

Yeah, this has been happening since launch and is caused by time travel. It's always been accepted that time traveling backwards can cause weird things to happen.

Some people have actually made use of this glitch to change a villager's exterior if they don't like their real one!

I've had goldie for about 2 weeks now. Tt'ing forward doesn't do anything to combat this. They've already moved in

Oof that's a shame. Guess I gotta kick them out and start over lol

Make sure to not TT backwards at all once you start the process.

But I think now you’re stuck with the weird exterior and I’m not sure if it’ll rectify itself if you kick her out and replace her. I think the glitch is there until another update happens?

if you're time traveling, you have to keep going forward day by day until their house is already built before you can go back to your normal time to avoid this glitch

Yeah, definitely caused by TT'ing backwards, I'm so sorry It's been around for a hot minute now, always TT forward one day at a time to ensure nothing goes wrong during the move-in process

It's not so much TT as missing the day the house goes to a plot. If you don't TT at all and you don't play that day, you will get the glitch. Just always make sure you see a plot when you're getting a new villager. Role-playing reason: Tom Nook says, "I could demolish this perfectly good house, but that's bells. If nobody comes around tomorrow to have a look, I'm just going to sneak this guy into this already built house and count my stacks."

had that happen with julian and skye - essentially, if you skip the day that the plot is supposed to be "empty" and void of any housing, the exterior will stay the same. i'm not sure if it works the same with tt'ing back, but that's how it happened to me. super convenient if you want to avoid an "ugly" exterior, super inconvenient if you actually want the villager and their house.
