A theremin uses a pair of antenna to track the operator's hands' locations. Moving the hands closer or farther from the two antenna change the instrument's volume and pitch. In AC, the theremin mimics half of this: think of the theremin as the pitch oscillator and your character as the hand. Walking toward or away from it changes the tone's frequency.
