If you have a themed town: What's more important to you with a town, that you get all your favourites or that you have all villagers that go with your theme?
I recently decided to steer Lunavila in the direction of a more space theme, I just set up a second character who is meant to be an alien and my main character has an astronaut helmet, and I'm trying to add more space-themed landscaping.
That being said, only a very small portion of my villagers for Lunavila could really be considered space themed, really, Dotty and Francine (since they are rabbits and there is that whole mythology around the moon rabbit) are the only ones that could truly be considered space villagers by any stretch. But I love my villagers with all my heart and even letting go of one sounds heart-breaking... but I feel like cow villagers or villagers with space-themed homes, like Tipper, Naomi, or Octavian, would really help with the atmosphere.

Should I just work on general space themed house decoration and landscaping so I don't have to lose my favourite villagers, or should I let some of them go in favor of the theme I've chosen?

Honestly, a themed town should have villagers to follow that theme, in my opinion. You may find some new favorites if you look for villagers to follow the theme. Ruby is THE moon rabbit, so you could try her out instead of Dotty and Francine. Who knows, maybe you end up liking her a lot too.

However if you really really like your current villagers you can keep them and lanscape around them to make a themed town. The villagers don't always have to be themed too.

My town is mainly forest themed though my villagers don't really go with my town theme, I just get my favourites. I just landscape my town how I want and that's really how you play AC - you play it however you want.

All my fav villagers to go with my theme (by concidence) so I didn't really have to choose lol

Well much of villagers that I love are perfect for a theme
But I go mostly with themes because I don't have trouble

My villagers go by my favorites. I don't really have a theme for my town, but I have the nature-y feel of it. I have 6 deer, 2 squirrels, 1 eagle, and 1 bird to go along with the nature feel of it so that's perfect. And they all happened to be apart of my favorite villagers so that's very well too.

Favourites. My town honestly very isn't themed, which means I guess I have the privilege of being able to choose 10 favourites, rather than 10 that go along with a certain theme

I would always choose to have my favorites in my villagers, however, if you are doing a theme and truly want to stick with the theme, you may want to choose villagers that go with the theme. That being said, it is ultimately YOUR town, do what makes *you* happy at the end of the day! :) ;)

Favorites, I'm not going to force myself to like villagers just because they fit my theme.
(Really, they're some villagers I just don't like)

My villagers (All lazy villages, EYYYYY)are all lazy and they fit perfectly with my modern town.

For me, it depends on the town.

Ruddyoak is my main town, my "real" town that feels like home, so it is a mix of some old and new favorites despite its Tolkien theme. If I were to kick out favorites to bring in villagers for the sake of the theme, this particular town would no longer feel like home.

Goblin is completely "Labyrinth" themed, but its villagers are ones I chose because I liked them--Tammi being the exception; she was a day 1 resident of Goblin and she grew on me. Oh, and I did choose Shep partly because he reminded me of the dogs from the film...and partly because he's great.

AHS is fully "American Horror Story" themed, and every single villager shares a name with an AHS character. I don't "live" in this town, so having entirely themed villagers didn't bother me. And you know what? They all really grew on me! :) BUT that was my plan from the start--I didn't have to evict favorites to make it happen.

I would suggest following your heart on this one. If you'll feel gutted getting rid of villagers you love, then I wouldn't do it. Maybe put up spacey clothing patterns at Ables' for them to wear, and/or send them some spacey furnishings for their homes? Help your beloved neighbors fit your theme. :)

In my opinion, a themed town is often different to a favourites town. My town isn't themed on anything, I just don't have the imagination that other people seem to have with these things. So I have all my favourites and it doesn't matter if they match with each other or fit in a certain area (although I like to think I've placed my villagers strategically, they are actually all plotted where they are because those were the areas I chose for any villager who may move in).
For a theme town I like seeing villagers who match with that specific theme. I've seen some lovely themes - doctor who/Pokemon/horse/etc. seeing how they've chosen the villagers to fit the town really makes the theme feel much more real :)

i go by favourites and without me realising, my town started to become a theme of sorts. the way i describe my town is a dreamy town that is found in the woods.
