The Worst/Best Social Media Platform

I use youtube, instagram, twitter and sometimes reddit.
Twitter is definitely the most toxic by far. There isn't a way to stay away from drama and toxicity, it's a literal cesspit. Instagram is okay as long as you follow decent people. I would say youtube is the least toxic but I guess it depends on what kind of videos you watch (eg the beauty community lol)
Honestly the ASMR community, at least the comment section, are among the best I've seen so far.

Best from my experience would be Facebook, despite some glaring issues...Because I guess I have to pick one.

For positives I never really see anything I dislike aside from ads, the messenger is basically how I contact friends, I've used the marketplace to buy perfectly fine guitars and pedals and the self promotion stuff is decent...Especially since it allows me to link other platforms and thus never have to log into Instagram again.

Negative would generally be poor automated report systems for harassment etc. This stood out a lot to me a couple weeks back when my partner had a couple hundred person hate mob harassing her from false allegations, the "guilty until proven innocent" bandwagon. Facebook did next to nothing and some of the disgusting and flat out incorrect comments remain, unable to take them down herself and Facebook deeming personal attacks as "that's fine".

Worst I dunno, I dont really use anything else. From my short lived stint on Twitter I would say that. I just dont see the appeal of it at all. Seems like it's only good for following 'popular people' to see what garbage comes out of their mouth...Or whatever they can say with the word limit. The only I got from this was messaging Brian Adams every week to remind him he wasnt invited to play Dungeons and Dragons with me.

I use Reddit, Twitter and Tumblr.

Reddit is always quick with things going on and it's usually where I find out about new things.

Twitter is great at telling you what's going on at this very moment, and what people want to share right now.

Tumblr is great for the humor and fandom discussion. It's usually the place I go to after finishing a show to pick up on things I missed. Reddit is also good with that through episode discussions, but usually there are just jokes and references at the top of the thread.

What I actively left is Facebook and Instagram.

Facebook is about combining your identity with your online activity and I'm not about that. I just want to enjoy "childish" stuff in peace.

Instagram is not that fun to use. It's lile the Tumblr dashboard without written text and the site is all about the perfect picture anyway. Not my style, I just want to have fun.

That's my opinion. I like most sites because they all allow you to customize your personal experience. I see what I want and get entertained through it. For me, the problem comes from pushing social media to be more than just entertainment.

Tbh there’s some I have a gripe with:

Reddit - Honestly the amount of casual racism and transphobia on this social media platform is deeply concerning but recently there’s been a huge banwave so that’s great. However, they still missed a bunch of racist and transphobic subs like r/LGBdroptheT, r/pinkpillfeminism, r/sino, r/aznidentity, and r/femaledatingstrategy. Also the amount of non-American redditors (mostly European from what I’ve seen) trying to talk over the experience of non-white Americans about race on this platform is insane. I swear if I had a dollar for someone trying to downplay my experiences I would probably make a decent amount. 🙄

Instagram - Instagram is great if you don’t follow any big accounts and don’t follow many people. However, I will admit it it’s great for revealing who is a massive snowflake or superficial af and who is genuine with themselves. I only follow artists on IG and not a lot of people I know irl because they usually tend to come off as fake and superficial online to the point where it feels like any typical manufactured IG influencer.

Twitter - Just awful in general. I used to have an account and deleted it due to how much performative activism is on there, not to mention how annoying the kpop stans on it are as well. Also people who act the most “woke” on this platform tend to be the most ignorant.

Best: Probably Snapchat. I didn't have many problems with Snapchat.
Worst: Twitter. There is a lot wrong with Twitter. Sure, it tells you what's going on, but it is also full of people fighting and arguing over everything. A lot of the site is pretty much scorched earth right now, from all the arguing back and forth on that website.

As for me: tiktok is the worst, I don't even have an account and just watched while some of my friends browsed it - honestly looks like a loop of the same repeated things by everyone, can't really see any interesting content.
Facebook is one of my favorite. After cleaned a bit my profile (deleted ppl with i had nothing to do, unliked pages i didnt like) i builded a nice place full of memes, horror/creepy facts, animal crossing, curiosity and ppl I like.
I have IG but don't really spend time on it, never able to get into twitter.

I mostly have all the social media apps except for Facebook, and to be honest I think TikTok and Twitter are one of the worst social media apps. For one, twitter has such a toxic community, canoeing people left and right, and sometimes they try to cancel the wrong people as well *cough cough* Skai Doxxing I mean Jackson *cough cough* and most of the people who are cancelling other people are the annoying Kpop Stans. I don't have anything against Kpop, but the community can be quite toxic at times. And tik tok, most of the videos in my fyp are just people like Charli D Maleo are whatever and Addison Rae dancing to songs with the reused dance moves they keep on recycling in a different order. I don't even know why Charli has so many followers for just dancing to a song xD I think the best social media apps are Instagram and Reddit, although I don't even have any posts on Instagram xD

Twitter is probably the worst (Skai Jackson doxxing children, all these false threads about celebrities, and #____isoverparty hashtags popping up everyday are just a few "yikes" moments of Twitter.) TikTok can be decent if you're just looking at cottagecore/deep/cursed videos. It's all subjective

I will have to be honest here, Snapchat.

I've been through a lot of BS with friends, friends that don't reply for long periods of time (days included, especially actually) dry answers, people that really just don't want to hang out with you, people that use you/manipulate you. People that don't want to keep a streak so just ghost you. It became a chore basically to text my friends on snap or keep a streak. I got a severe case of FOMO not too long ago and still feel it even with the pandemic and in lockdown. Lots of my friends aren't obeying the quarantining rule and some have even gotten sick or knew someone that got sick. It's a scary time right now and I don't think social media is for the mental health right now, honestly.
I've since stopped texting everyone, went on lockdown, I don't text anyone, no one texts me, no one checks in on me like I did them, because no one cares and that's alright, I'm not expecting everyone to be on their phones 24/7 chatting it up with me.

I've learned to just let things go, let people do their thing, and not care that they don't and never cared for me or my friendship. I got too much stuff to do and worrying about keeping a streak, checking likes, checking posts of toxic friends, is not on my list

Facebook depends entirely on what you do with it but maybe like a 4/10 for me.

Instagram is great but can also be super toxic sometimes 6/10

Tumblr died a loooong time ago 2/10

Amino also depends on where you are but for me 7/10

Twitter is great too but again can be super toxic every now and then 5/10

I've enjoyed using twitter a lot over the years (but I may be using it incorrectly ^^). For the first 6 years or so it mwas used mostly for music releases. The events I follow only happen 4 times a year and following the artist and event tag makes it a lot more convenient to decide on what to buy. Also super convenient as they are usually event only, and online distribution isn't really a thing.

I've mostly been active the past year, getting to know people who share common interests with me and following artists. There's some drama but most of it doesn't concern me. It is however useful in live reporting of current events.

Depends on how you use it and knowing when to disconnect.

They're all bad! People get into stupid arguments on tumblr because they think they know better, but that's all hidden in the notes section/reblogs of a post.

Twitter is bad because it's so full of homophobia, racism, sexism, people have no filter and say terrible things to innocent posts, esp stuff about LGBTQA+.

I never used Instagram but I hear how it has alot of body shaming, bot accounts, and also it's kinda hard to read comments. When I see screenshots of posts it's hard to read cause everything looks squished and small. Normally I don't have an issue with small fonts, like I can read small fonts on here just fine but there? It's not easy. Also I get spammy messages saying stuff like 'go follow person on their Instagram' in my DMs, like, could you not? I know those last two points really aren't negatives but still.

I never used Facebook but I see 'now you know uncle/auntie is a raging racist/sexist ext...' kinda memes things.

i use tumblr and reddit to waste time (commuting, slow work day, in the bath lol) but i pretty much exclusively use whatsapp as an actual social media, ie. for connecting with friends

I don't really use social media, at least not the intended way, I iust look for inspiration.

The worst is Twitter, a place that is completely soaked in its own toxic waste of a userbase.

Reddit is the second worst, there's much overlap between the two, but Reddit is its own brand of garbage, where Twitter doesn't care about facts and it's all feelings reddit attempts to use facts, but they're cherry picked at best, and most of the time straight up crap.

Instagram leads it's users into a perfect photoshopped and filtered world that will let its users feel inadequate in life, it's a beautiful soul sucking place where people deploy the most nefarious of schemes to gain followers.

Facebook, a place where you get to hear the innermost thoughts of the people you went to kindergarten with, and you'd really rather not know.

As someone who does not even have a social media account, I think I have found Facebook the most useful for finding small businesses in my area. I don't plan on ever having a social media account ever though because I do not trust any of the companies with my information and see it as a voluntary invasion of privacy. I would rather stick to anonymous/username-based sites instead where I can be myself without compromising my identity in the process. I also would rather stick to sites that are held with more accountability as well that have to comply with financial/legal regulations.

I tend to stay away from them as much as possible since they're all so toxic. I use Youtube, but I watch tv more often now. The only thing close to social media I use is this forum. The only reason I would get social media is to keep in touch with friends.

Despite being a part of Stan Twitter, I'm going to say Twitter is the WORST platform. Youtube (excluding the ASMR community) and Instagram are up there as well.

I use Facebook as well, and for the most part, it's drama-free. Not sure if Discord counts as a 'social media platform' because it's just a messaging app, but I love Discord. It's one of my favorites besides Facebook.

Man it's hard to say. I feel like Twitter is pretty toxic sometimes, with lots of hate commentary and stuff. Facebook used to be better but now it's just full of political arguments. Instagram used to be my inspiration for design and travel, but lately that has felt too hollow. To be honest I've kind of drifted away from using most platforms, though I still check them once in a while. I mainly use Discord now to talk to and game with my friends, and that's a pretty small group of people. Oh, I guess I also use Reddit and website social platforms sometimes to browse and share Animal Crossing stuff, so there's that - but it's not super social for me.
