When you want to give away a villager, does the person have to talk to him on moving day, or is any time past the moving announcement ok to guarantee the move to be successful?

Okay this is super duper exciting to me.
In my alt town Hanamori I'm starting to give away villagers. I'm already giving away Jay but the villagers that I will be giving away include the following;

Renee
Ruby
Bruce
Drake
Julian
and Kitty
