Not sure what your mistake was, but if the villager talks to you and you ask them to stay and they won't, you can reset your game and go up to that villager when they ping (!) and try again.

I kept saying goodluck to Katt whenever she brought up moving... And then when moving day came I suddenly felt so much regret. She gave me her picture as a goodbye present...
But at least my friend agreed to take her in and hopefully I'll be able to get her back...

I thought they stayed awake for the entire 24 hours. What if I have a friend who wants an animal but can only come at 3am? Kinda dumb on Nintendo's part.

Hope it's ok to ask this here, I figured you guys might know as you're so used to it all. Generally how long does it take for the game to give you a random villager?

I ask as I'm down to 8 as of this morning, but have asked for 2 from this board, 1 which will be packed on the 28th and the other on the 31st, I know I'll be safe to get the later one, but I don't want a random villager moving in before I can get the one on the 28th!
