Not sure... Haven't ever tried or heard a for sure answer from someone who has.

Can't remember if I read it on here or GameFAQs but someone said they did this and it worked. I'll try and see if I can find it.
Might as well try though. What have you got to lose?

Supposedly, but not sure. I'll be trying it soonish, I really hope it works. >_< Otherwise, you have to cycle 16 villagers out or something before you can get them back in.

Yes, you can have a villager who moved out move back in, you just have to wait until 16 of your villagers move out after that villager. I was actually reading up on this last night. You game stores the last 16 villagers that lived in your town (You know who's stored there since your past villagers show up on your main street sometimes after you have your first four villagers move out), and after you've passed the 16 villager mark you can have your past villager move back in since the game does not have them stored in it anymore (And likewise, they don't show up in your main street anymore).

Not sure what your mistake was, but if the villager talks to you and you ask them to stay and they won't, you can reset your game and go up to that villager when they ping (!) and try again.
