I don't know if this thread were made already, but...

Here we go. I start.

«New Horizons»

The game is cool and is better than New Leaf.... at the same time that it isn't. I don't know how to describe this, but i feel like it gets boring very easily. I play ACNH for like, 5 hours before it feels like i don't have anything cool to do anymore after those 5 hours. While this, i played New Leaf for literally all the day. I spend 60% of my time playing the NSwitch Project Diva game and the 40% i leave to New Horizons. Also, the fact that Brewster, Catrina, Kapp'n and his family, Grace, that chameleon from Bug Off and Chip (note that Bug Off and Fishing Tourney are also gone) are gone for maybe forever and are not coming back in updates worries me a lot. Another thing that annoys me is that Isabelle got INCREDIBLY. USELESS. Like, please stop talking about TV or Magazines or your personal life in general please?????
Oh, and Raymond, Judy and Sherb spoiled the fandom.

«Pocket Camp»
That game is just... boring. And things are so expensive... Nintendo, i won't spend like, 20 dollars (that is already too much expensive for us brazillians) on a dang beach background.

«New Leaf»
Don't have anything i have to rant about in NL. Gurrrl that game is just perfect. I think the only things i dislike about it is the fact i can't decide where my villagers can move (i refuse to do soft-reseting. That thing is just so....??????), i can't plant cedar trees anywhere and that the dresses look kind of weird in this game. Just it i think??
Oh, i forgot about how long it takes to Grace visits you even if you had upgraded the Timmy and Tommy shop enough for her to appear.

.
.
.
These were the only AC games i played or remember about. Now i want to know YOUR rants about various AC games.
Sorry for bad english, lol.

I did as many as I could for each game. The result is kinda long.
GC-Not much here, since I didn’t play that game as much. To be honest, I love the aesthetic of this game! I don’t like being forced to have a helmet/gnome cap and the meanness is a bit much for me.

WW-Didn’t really play that much, either. Most of my gripes there are with CF, other than the shared house debacle (which isn’t much of a problem if you’re play

CF-I don’t like how mean-spirited snooty villagers can be. They were NOT likable in that game, whereas their male counterparts (crankies), persnickety as they were, were at least approachable (and the other 4 personalities were awesome!)

Not a fan of the EXTREMELY limited wardrobe options per day in Able Sisters: sure, the dressing room mechanic in NH is clunky and imperfect, but at least it has more than like 5 items per day!

NL-NOT a big fan of the Gracie quests. I never got the last upgrade on my first two towns because of that stinkin giraffe and those tight dress codes that REQUIRED you to hold onto a decent amount of clothing (which in pre-WA era was a chunk of storage that I did NOT want to give up).

I’m also not a fan of the clipboards that require going out of town (as I wasn’t a part of this community), which meant that I’d have to reset if that dreaded clipboard got into my hands (this was years ago, so I’m not sure if there was any way to get rid of it otherwise).

Maybe I’m just spoiled on NH, but being restricted to like 10-15 clothing items per day, PERIOD, was annoying.

Villagers requesting to visit my house, then wanting to sett a date 2-4 hours ahead. I know it’s more realistic, but I’m not setting a timer for a 2 minute interaction.

This is all pre NH, but villagers moving out of their own accord, or being set on moving when you ask them not to. Me being the nonresetter back then, that meant losing villagers I absolutely loved because the game decided I wasn’t playing enough or just cuz.

NH-the lack of plants is saddening. I never realized how much biodiversity was in NL! I want that back.

on that same token, a lot of items that I either have nostalgia for or would work perfectly with my island theming are gone. I can only hope for them to make a return.

I wish that it was easier to get requests from villagers as it was in NL, as well as adding more in. Heck, even the fruit request was simple and cute!

While I’m alright with being dripfed stuff, I would’ve preferred to at least have had one more upgrade to NC at launch, with a couple more furniture sets...

Now, this is all off the top of my head. I might be missing a lot in each title.

I want to emphasize that the amount of gripes that I have with each game does NOT correlate with how much I enjoyed that game. GC and WW have barely anything because I barely remember playing them, while I still love NL and NH (NH just a touch more) and the amount of rants are more because I remember them more.

Also, the fact that Brewster, Catrina, Kapp'n and his family, Grace, that chameleon from Bug Off and Chip (note that Bug Off and Fishing Tourney are also gone) are gone for maybe forever and are not coming back in updates worries me a lot.

the bug off and fishing tourney are both in new horizons though... tbh it's very likely brewster and kappn will go back, possibly katrina as well

1. isabelle has a line in acnh that references making more buildings
2. the dock - kinda like the secret beach, it's just been kinda ~there~ since the start but we didn't know the full purpose til redd came along

anyway, people definitely romanticize the older games and i love them because of their charm, but wow they had some crippling flaws. so like for example ac gamecube:

  • you don't have storage. like, legitimately nothing. you only have the storage from items in your house but it only holds three items. to "store things" you have to put them in letters and put them in the post office but there's no way for you to identify the item unless you remove it or mark your letters or something
  • blathers doesn't assess fossils, you have to mail them in and then your mailbox is flooded if you do a ton at once
  • can't stack items, smaller pocket space
  • letter writing is really hard, you have to follow a specific format or your villagers won't "understand" and they can be kinda mean about it tbh (all personalities)
  • the camera pans are.... very annoying, so you can only view one "tile" at a time and there's a delay before the camera moves between tiles
  • you can't make a bridge until you have like 15 villagers or something

The only games I really feel qualified to speak on are ACGC and ACNH

ACGC:
  • The lack of storage and the comparatively tiny house (one big room, one small upper floor, one medium-sized basement that you can't change the wallpaper/carpet of) is a major flaw.
  • I also don't like the random dead tiles where trees won't grow for no real reason. It's not because they're too close to each other, or because they're too close to a river or a cliff. Just... dead zones.
  • Blathers not assessing the fossils was annoying, although it was some fun character development for him. In ACGC he said he could identify the fossils but that it wouldn't be proper because was still working on getting his certification. By later games he actually has the certification and can do it himself. In addition to having to mail the fossils away, you can dig up 4 fossils per day, but the Farway Museum will only send back 3 the next day.
  • The inventory is so small. NH spoils us with 40 slots, seriously.
ACNH:
  • The furniture selection, or lack thereof is the biggest one for me
  • The only requests the villagers give is for fish and bugs which ruins their interiors, or to deliver clothes to ruin the recipient's wardrobe. I miss the random items that don't get displayed like the Pikachu Tamagotchi thing and the handkerchief that you had to fetch
  • How each island will have certain items/DIYs/color variants that are just absurdly rare for some reason (or just won't show up at all) to force you to buy NSO so you can trade
  • In a perfect world, each update would include one holiday + one new permanent feature rather than updates that just do holidays. I loved the summer updates since they did something new for the game that is available year round.

ACNL:
  • The thing I dislike most about New Leaf is, without a shadow of a doubt, diving. It's like it was purposefully designed to be frustrating and difficult. It's not as profitable as one might think, aside from crabs and isopods... but those are the most annoying things to catch. There are few things more infuriating than chasing down a big shadow only to have it swim out of bounds and then just sit there, taunting you... or swim too close to land and vanish. I've given up on completing meow coupon requests that require the giant isopod just because of how frustrating it is. And on that subject...
  • I don't like the Meow Coupon system introduced with the Amiibo update. On the surface, it's not too bad... do some daily/weekly achievements and get rewards you can use in the campgrounds/RVs. But some of the daily coupon tasks are a little too difficult, and not worth the two coupon reward. As mentioned, the giant isopod request is just ridiculous for only two coupons. Other catch requests, like tuna, pikes, stringfish, etc. are also a little too frustrating. I've spent hours of my day trying in vain to catch a specific fish just for two measly coupons. I know they build up over time and you're probably not supposed to stress about them, but I like to know that I comfortably spend my meow coupons on cool stuff in the camgpround/RVs without having to go bankrupt on coupons.
  • In a similar vein, DLC/Amiibo card RVs with stuff that's only available in those RVs. I don't want to have to buy an amiibo card just for an item or two. Special hate goes out to limited time/region-locked RVs, like Filly's, with the 7-11 items. I don't know if there were any more RVs like hers', but that's just a mean-spirited thing to do.
  • Scheduled villager meetings. They're inconvenient, and I almost always forget about them.. I either forget the time, or forget whether I was supposed to meet at their house or vice-versa. Like somebody else said, I don't want to have to set an alarm for a two-minute interaction.
In spite of all the above whining, New Leaf is still my favorite Animal Crossing game, and one of my favorite games of all time. I just thought I should make that clear.

ACNH:
  • The loss of traditional furniture sets is what turned me off from NH so much that I'm not playing it anymore. DIY wasn't worth it.
  • I really dislike the repetitive, bland "tutorial" music that plays before Isabelle arrives. I know you're supposed to hurry past that part, but I was eager to get specific villagers to move in before then.
  • Going out to random islands with the hopes of finding a villager you like on one of them sounded appealing at first, but in the end, I wasn't really a fan of the randomly generated islands.
  • I don't appreciate the new approach to adding content through patches as time goes on.
  • Villagers seem a lot more one-dimensional than they do in New Leaf. The Jock villagers especially only ever talk about working out/muscles/sweat/etc. Interactions also seemed more lacking, with less villager requests than in New Leaf, and no inter-villager communications (I never saw any villagers talking to one another at any rate, but I could be wrong about that).
  • How could they make an island game and exclude Kapp'n... I mean, seriously?

The only two that I have played so far are ACGC and ACNL. It's been forever since I last played ACGC so I'm sure I'll forget some things, but here goes...

ACGC:
- I hated being forced to wear that goofy hat all the time.
- I'm pretty sure in this game the female characters could only wear dresses. While I usually do dress my female characters in skirts and dresses, in real life I almost always wear pants, so I prefer having the option of either in game.
- Very little character customization.
- Very limited house customization. If I remember correctly, you could only paint the roof.
- Lack of storage.
- Villagers could steal items from you.

ACNL:
- Villager personalities were toned down significantly. I miss my true cranky villagers! 😭
- NPCs like Blathers were no longer as interesting due to lack of dialogue.
- I despise grass wear with a passion! It altered the entire way I play the game.
- There is a focus on landscaping and decorating but villagers can put their houses down anywhere, which can ruin everything you've done. Along that same note, villagers can randomly plot their houses literally three steps in front of your door or any other building. In fact, they almost seem to prefer doing that.
- Tiny rant, but I preferred the GameCube options of choosing to talk to a villager or do a task. I always feel bad when I'm at the end of a play session and I finally find that villager that has eluded me all night only to have them ask me for a time-consuming request that I have to decline.

That's all I can think of for now. Most of the other things people have mentioned don't really bother me all that much.

GC: mailing fossils is annoying but other than that I find the limitations quite charming?
WW: didn’t like the big tiles in front of the house but again otherwise charming
CF: THE DIALOGUE TREE SYSTEM
NL: THE LACK OF DIALOGUE VARIETY
NH: PRIORITISING SMALL TALK OVER THE ACTUAL DIALOGUE

I've never played the Gamecube version, so I hope you don't mind me asking, but how did that happen? Could they just randomly take something from you when you talked to them?
Sometimes they could run up to you, and when they interact with you they could note one of your items, and then force you to give it to them. A good chunk of the time they’ll give you an item or bells (a measly amount) in return, but usually you’re going to use that item for your purposes in the first place so you’re practically having that item stolen, anyways...

I don't remember them ever running up the way they do in NL/NH when they 'ping' you. It's just something that could happen when you choose the 'let's talk' option. If you got something you wanted to sell full price or keep, you just shut your mouth and booked it north.

But yeah, it was obnoxious how there was no warning and no option on your end to refuse to give it to them. People complain about the dialogue from ACGC being "mean" (which is really overselling it imo. Snooties were the only ones who stayed mean after like a week of doing tasks and writing letters, the others warmed up quickly), but there was nothing more mean-spirited than a peppy villager saying "I'm totally taking this from you and there's nothing you can do about it!" while laughing hysterically.

I must be misremembering, then. As I said in my first post I didn’t play GC all that much.

As for the villagers being mean, yeah it’s really only the snooties that were exceptionally mean. It’s also the reason why they’re my least favorite personality up until NH.

It's been a while but I remember it the way Miss Misty said. If you had an item on you and talked to a villager, they could take it from you and there was nothing you could do to stop them. They would give you something in return, but if it was a rare and expensive item you were just out of luck. So after I learned that, anytime I acquired an item I wanted to keep, I would book it to my house as quickly as possible to drop it off, avoiding any contact with the villagers on the way.

Oh they didn't always give you something in return. Like I said in my post, the peppies were notorious for me with just taking something, laughing about it, and ending the conversation with no compensation. Hence why my favorite peppy, Audie, is one who was never in ACGC and therefore could never have done such a thing. 😂

wild world
• i will forever be confused as to why the other events that existed in this game were filler ones and new year’s. where was toy day?? halloween?? festivale??
• if i recall correctly, the maximum amount of learnt reactions you could have was 4 at a time which uh,, wasn’t very sexy lmao.
• this wasn’t exclusive to wild world but the fact that characters were default white for years isn’t great. i can imagine nintendo didn’t want kapp’n asking people about their skin colour but still,, why :/

new leaf
• plot resetting was an absolute nightmare and i’m so glad that i’ll never have to do it again. hopefully.
• villagers being able to leave without warning or even saying goodbye was incredibly devastating. stepping back from the game for any length of time without keeping track of the date was always a gamble as you never knew what you’d be coming back to or who would be missing. i remember that in 6th grade, i didn’t play for about a week or so as i was going through a depressive episode. when i finally loaded up the game again, isabelle immediately informed me that beau, my absolute favourite villager, was in boxes. ,,even after all this time, i still don’t have the words to articulate just how heartbroken i was.
• who the hell came up with the 16 villager cycle and thought it was a good idea? :/
• being unable to move buildings really, really sucked.
• the smugs’ “cool as a cucumber” dialogue will forever be the bane of my existence.

pocket camp
• while i understand that this is how they earn the majority of their revenue, the amount of events was honestly really overwhelming for me. it’s like there’s something new almost everyday and i don’t handle a bunch of things going on at once very well lmao.
• again, while i understand that this is what earns them their revenue, almost everything has a rlc price tag on it and as someone who is prone to making irresponsible purchases, playing pocket camp has never been in my best interest, especially since i always get bored of it after a week or so. 🥴

new horizons
• i know this gets complained about constantly but the current lack of furniture really is a bit frustrating. i appreciate that this is getting improved over time but still,, definitely wish that more items were available from the get-go. >:c
• compared to new leaf, the house exterior design options that we have are incredibly lacklustre.
• why do literally all of the tools break now? like,, not even the gold ones are indestructible. :/
• i miss when we could just pick up flowers rather than having to dig them up with a shovel; flower removal is definitely way more tedious now and i honestly can’t be bothered smh.
• you’re telling me that i can fit a whole ass lighthouse into my storage but not a diy card??
• it saddens me that so many of my favourite npcs are either missing or rendered useless. a lot of them were so important to the series for so long and not having them around feels weird.
• i will never know peace until the megaphone is brought back,, i’m so tired of having to go on a scavenger hunt just to try and find one of my villagers.
• while this isn’t something that has personally affected me, i’m genuinely curious as to why nintendo decided to allow people to display custom designs in other peoples’ able sisters. like,, what was the reason??
• i’m really not a fan of the new postal system. my biggest gripe with it is the fact that it now costs 200 bells just to send one letter when previously, a 4-pack of stationery only costed 80 bells and there were no mailing fees. :/
• this doesn’t bother me as much as it used to but i’m still confused as to why the sizes of our left, right and back rooms were decreased a bit.
• i miss the perfect and tropical fruits so bad.

i think that’s just about everything? my memory is a bit rusty but i tried to touch on what i can remember + i didn’t mention gamecube, city folk or hhd as i’ve never played them aha.
