The TAKS Test

These are easy. You just have to find the cost of the increase in price of the pound.

Proportion wouldn't work as the ratios aren't similar.

The increases in the prices of the pounds are different.

I took the mathematics test today, and there's one problem that's been BUGGING THE HECK out of me all day! It asked about two brands of dog food, where 8 Ibs of Brand X and 1 Ib of Brand Y cost $8.40. Then it said that 16 Ibs of Brand X and 8 Ibs of Brand Y cost $24.00. I had to find the cost per pound of Brand Y. The choices were something along the lines of...

A $0.90
B $1.02
C $2.20
D $4.08

I think I guessed choice C. The problem simply did not click for me...
Hmmm... somethings off here. I think answer B must have been $1.20, not $1.02... or maybe C was $1.20 instead of $2.20... whatever. anyway...

16x+8y=24
2x+y=3
y=3-2x

8x+y=8.40
8x+(3-2x)=8.40
6x=5.40
x=.90

8(.90)+y=8.40
7.20+y=8.40

y=$1.20

...yeah, I was the kid they copied off of.

I take TAKS tomorrow, I already took Math though.
