I'm trying to find the pet pictures thread but apparently I can't search for it because the word is "too short, too long, too common". Literally every word could fits those criterias since it's a vague statement. I tried using other words but since the original thread mentions the word "pet", it's hard to get the results I need.

I've been having this problem before, especially when searching NMT or DIYs. It's also effecting me searching for people being mentioned (without being mentioned using the feature, only a state of name) with three letters names in the cellar.

I never had a problem like this before in v2.0.

i have the same problem when i try to search stuff - it’s hella annoying ;;

using google, unfortunate as it is, is infinitely easier

site:belltreeforums.com "pet pictures"

should work.
it's alot of work, especially on mobile where I type slower then a snail

I just wish the site search function allowed three letter words

It looks like you've searched the entire forum, rather than the correct board. To get the most specific results you wanted, the best way to have done it would have been to:

  1. Go to Brewsters Cafe
  2. Open the search menu
  3. Type in "pet pictures" and then select "This forum" from the dropdown menu
  4. If you remember their username, enter it in the username box
  5. Press search
Even without entering a username, and eliminating the three-letter word, the current pet pictures thread is the eighth hit.

Once you have used it a few times it will become easier. You can use it to search for specific posts within a thread as well by selecting "This thread" in the drop-down menu. :)

That helps, thanks! ^-^

I'm still having a problem with the other three examples though.

I'm still having a problem with the other three examples though.

There are some barriers with the search tool. As you mentioned, searching for all mentions of a three-letter name yields no results. There are sone variants you could try though:

For DIYs and NMTs
The search recognizes these with the ‘s.’ Visit the Nook’s Cranny board and tap ‘Search.’ Instead of ‘Everything,’ select ‘This forum.’

I would recommend searching a specific DIY (e.g.: ironwood shelf) for best results but you’ll still see results with just DIYs.

For NMTs, consider using ‘selling NMT’ if you were looking for currency exchange threads. If you were looking to buy items with NMTs, search something like “For NMT’

For users:

You can search for all of a specific user’s posts in a given thread which may help. If they’re being mentioned they’d likely be replying. Click into the thread and select ‘This Thread’ for your search. Type the username and tap them when their icon pops up. It will show the results of every post they’ve made in that thread.

Odd as it is, sometimes adding a word like ‘word’ alongside the username in the search field yields posts with mentions of their name within the thread too.
