The sadness of only having one island...

It just Nintendo lame ducking excuse for cash grab. There no reason multiple island can't be on one Switch. Literally none. So Nintendo said they want 8 people on one switch yet also said they want everyone to own their own switch? Yeah I'm not buying it, this is a shameless cash grab and nothing more.

Nintendo apologists can defend them in every which way, but we all know it a cashgrab. They say one thing but do the opposite.

No arguments here.

I used to have two towns in NL - one was a cycling town back in the day!
I hate not being able to have more than one town, I certainly can't afford another switch! I sold my wii u to afford this one!

It would be nice to be able to get different flowers and fruit without online trade, it seems so impossible in NH right now.

I understand the spirit of each profile sharing an island, but that doesn't mean it's a good idea in practice

they had to go out of their way to program the game differently to do this, it's a step back since NL proved this to be an outdated method that they're dragging back for really no reason. It'd be at least a lil better, as others mentioned, if the secondary characters had more responsibilities to at least be a bit of a step up from NL, yet they don't :'O

It's because Nintendo prioritizes innovation over improving upon existing features. It's the reason we're not getting another F-Zero. People don't want innovation in F-Zero. Just new characters, new tracks, the same old game we've known and loved since the 90s. I've said it before, and I'll no doubt say it for years to come: Just you can innovate doesn't always mean you should.

Innovation is all well and good, but it's not an excuse or justification to not improve upon existing features. While New Horizons is fun and enjoyable in it's own right, you can very clearly tell, even with new content via future updates coming out over time, that Nintendo wanted to experiment more with innovation then anything else.

As another user posted here: There was absolutely no reason not to allow one island per save file.

I never thought of it that way, that's a SUPER good way to put it! I've always wondered why Nintendo made weird decisions like this and i could never put it into words what exactly they were even doing. It's not even that they're trying to take risks or experimenting with improving certain aspects and content of the series, they just have the weird "innovation" goal in mind for completely different mechanics that really didn't need to be altered to the degree that they did.

Pretty much. And as much as I love Nintendo, I still think they need to take the time to consider dropping innovation from time to time. Sometimes, a game just needs to have improvements to existing features, even if it's the same thing we've played over and over again, and we'll still enjoy it just as much. And, even then, the games won't be perfect, but there just might be less negative criticism then if they strictly make a policy of Innovate Or End The Franchise.

Tbh the only thing I can see people using all of the 8 character slots is to make story islands like Aika Village or anything like that, but there isn't even a Dream Suite to have a reason to do something like that. I just wish they would have traded off to 4 character slots and increase the maximum to 12 villagers.

Also I never really see anyone use more than 2 character slots anyways.

I have a pirate island and while I really love it and wouldn’t delete it, kinda want an ostrich farm island too with all 10 ostrich villagers. I love them so much! Even thought about buying a switch light if they release an AC special edition for that.
