The Pros and Cons of having two copies of NL?

I have a second copy, and in my opinion it has definitely been worth it ^^
Like you said, as long as you buy a used copy it won't be nearly as expensive as a new one, so you don't have to worry too much about regretting spending the money. And if you decide you don't want it, resell it or give it away ~

I am also a person who likes to reset a lot, so a second copy helps with that. I'm not really attached to my second town, so I have no problems resetting whenever I want. So far I mostly use that town for cycling, but I've had fun designing it with new landscape ideas and getting new dreamies too. I'll be resetting again soon :3

Before getting a second copy, I was sort of worried that I'd be unable to keep up with two because of time. Other than the weekends, I don't have a lot of free time for playing animal crossing. So what I do is only really play with one town at a time. In my first (main) town, I just tell a villager not to leave, save and quit, then I put the game down sometimes for weeks. No one leaves that way c:
Then I can spend a little bit of time daily playing in my second town and not have to worry about also doing that in my main town.

I take a lot of breaks from Animal Crossing, and sometimes I don't play it for weeks or months. I still feel like having a second copy was worth it though because I've gotten a lot of enjoyment out of it. Cycling was fun too. If I had to play them both everyday, it would be too time-consuming and I would regret it, but luckily I don't have to play either if I don't want to.

I don't have two fully developed towns, just one. So I'm not sure if that would make it more difficult or not to keep up with two copies.. Still, I hope this helped a bit!

I think I'd probably do he same and take breaks every now and again. My other town isn't finished yet however so would that take away from the enjoyment of having a second copy?

Thanks so much for the replies everyone! Please keep them coming! :)

I don't think so! My main town actually isn't finished either, it's about 90%. I like it that way though, because then I'm more inclined to come back to it and work on it when I have extra time.

Ive noticed a con that is:
You think it will be so fun because you get more dreamies. But you need to have so much time on your hands and you will probably most likely have to TT and will start to get not bothered to play.
Pro:YOU GET MORE DREAMIES :D

Pro Having an extra town that you can let visitors into. My main town is closed to online players.
The 2nd one is a easy going town with a nice orchard. I'll keep the town set on that date for good turnip price or premium fruit. Usually leave it for 2 days so all my friends can drop by. It's also set in a different season. So visitors like to drop by this time of year. It's Spring right now. Not worrying about movers too much make it fun.
It's a place where I put all the extra furniture. Snow person house, island/bug/weeding and fishing day items, all Gracie and 7-11/campus and sloppy items.
It's a place that I leave items out for cataloging or for free items. Also leave perfect fruit for visitors.

It is annoying that only one game gets the streetpass tag. So if you get another game make sure to open the game that wants to get the tag. I lost a lot of tags early on.

Does only one game get the street pass tag even if they're both physical copies?

I have two copies :)

Pros:
I use my brothers 3ds for one town and I streetpass him loads every day
You can sell turnips to each other, one tts to Sunday and buys lots of turnips and the other tts until they get a price higher than 120 or so
You can carry more items and more locker space
You can have two different map layouts
You can wifi with each other

Cons:
You can't choose one favourite over the other ( well I kind of can )
You have to flick from one town to another ( if you don't have more than one ds )

I'm thinking of getting a second copy. (I only buy/play physical copies. I refuse to download.) Anyway, I have a pink 3DS XL. Because I kind of collect pink consoles, my mom is offering to buy me the pink 2DS for my birthday. Since I'll have two consoles, a second copy with an entirely different town might be fun. I love my town, but I always have that itch to restart. I won't, though, because I'd hate to lose all of my hard work. I like the layout, I love my villagers, my home is cute, etc. A second copy is looking really good to me...

I have multi towns, excessive...depends on pov. I started with one main had a year before found belltree I wanted a second for cycling got attached, because of time as of late I end up long on one and not as much time into others. Am finishing last dream towns, as I just got a second ds system so can finally interact bt my towns thank goodness that will make things better. I have a cart for that, moving things around and holding and the idea beyond was one cart after finish this last one working on and do the interacting is to use it for cycle. I have really usually two active towns at a time then switch back.

Second machine will help finish up dreams last town, move things around blank cart and cycle finally. It's hard on one ds but now with two I don't feel bad about it, but some do get less play but that's about to change and am excited after figure out going between my own towns to move villager types bells ect then to cycle.

Now I have heard of people with way more than five, and all active, I usually am highly active on one or two at once my main is complete and not changing well with new ds maybe a little but I don't run them all at once but can go back. Am on the last aside from the move around and final dream pickup town and then cycle one. I am out of school and can't work right now though so I really do need something to put love and time into and for fun. Yes am working on a book but without AC things would be more stressful or just nothing but appts and such so if you have the time and most of mine were gifted doubles I just kept so if have means as well I say why not plus giving back when can is fun too.

I just got 2nd ds so still figuring out how to work inter town moving and the like, grouping villagers, once cart working on before got the new is done will have a hold one and do that while finally being able to get cycle town up. I have no clue about interacting bt carts but am ready to finish current last own town before the holding final few town and start cycling, even bought notebooks to track lurkers and organize. It is just something to put energy into I love but yeah I have to switch up which towns am actively playing regularly so they don't fall too far behind. But I say if it brings joy as opposed to inactivity and happiness I'd love to do a town maybe since have two blank, aside the cycle that I just play on until have had every villager and picture from lofty goal I know. But I plan to find new ways to not get tired of it new goals with it as I never intend to stop playing all together. So finish last dream, do the move around cart/then cycle and keep playing. Yeah towns aren't on current time usually but I like having different seasons.

It may seem a lot but time is split, and in my case it beats a day where nothing happens even if it's just getting someone a villager or interacting. To all with multis, keep on if it makes you or others happy I say.

I have seen mention several times about benefits of two ds systems I have had multis for a while on just one ds finally got a second. Any advice on what that enables you to do, it seems daunting at first interacting between moving around. It seems many have two so any advice on how having two machines helps I've been a long multi town person only one ds until now not sure how it works which seems a silly question but felt I was missing a lot with more than one town on one ds.

So, my 3DS started to get glitchy. The power would short out to like, this black screen of death every so often when I played. I decided to purchase myself a 2DS and, when I did, I bought myself another copy of New Leaf.

At first it was really neat to have two active towns, and I spent pretty much all day trying to develop them both. But that was the problem I had with having just two copies - it took me all day to do the things I wanted to do in both. I have kind of a problem with time management anyway, so I soon decided to stick with just one town.

I gave my old copy - and my fixed 3DS - to my best friend IRL. It's her first time playing Animal Crossing at all, and she's having a total blast. I'm super happy because now I can play with my best friend, and even though we live far apart it feels like we're close when we visit each other in-game.

Long story short: I couldn't handle developing multiple towns. If you're good with managing your time effectively I say go for it.

I decided to get another town about a little more than a year later. The only con I can really think of is that it takes a lot of time, but once you fully upgrade your house, get T&T Emporium, have a lot of bells, etc, then it's easier and a huge relief.

Tbh I would only consider getting another copy if my first town was "finished", i.e. everything I want in place, paths, PWPs, house finished etc., and I would stop playing on my first copy permanently, at least for a few months/ a year (put beautiful ordinance in place and stop playing the day someone wants to move out).

Only then would I find getting a 2nd copy manageable. :o

I'm tempted to return my second copy because i don't play it much but Nan's there and i don't want to boot anyone in Astoria and i'm not doing 4 normal's again.

If i had another 3ds i'd be more tempted to keep it

Yes. The one that get open after the tags gets the street pass tags and showcase houses. So put the game in that wants the tags.
My visitors town got opened a lot in the early days and took the tags from my first town. At the time I thought both got the tags.
When I got a 2nd 3DS my 3rd town got the first street pass badge. That's when I figured out something was wrong.
My first 3DS had way more ACNL tags.

Pros: Being able to have 2 towns with the villagers that you really want.

Cons: You have to look after them both...double guilt trip.

So in your opinion do the the pros outweigh the cons or vice versa?

LOL that first comment about StreetPassing to the max- you'll only get 2 to 3 a day with 2 systems! It's not just the 2 copies of the game you need, it's multiple systems too, because they can only tag each other 1 time within an 8 hour period. I knew from the onset I'd have 2 copies, but I had to wait to get my second, third, and now 4th (Japanese one), because they were insanely hard to find in stores on launch. If you want to get all your gold badges, it's best to get at least 2, because those 500 visits and 500 hosts are tough to get unless you know a LOT of people. Same goes with the weeding. You can let the other town rot, building up tons and tons of weeds, allowing you to pluck them, earning those 5,000 faster. You can trade villagers with yourself, so if there's one you want, you can cycle through them on the other copy. You can also get all the StreetPass items more easily since you get both ends of the StreetPass.

The only drawbacks I can think of off the top of my head are the price, and trying to keep certain days/events straight, because trying to manage 4 towns myself got WAY too hard, so I cut it down to just my original and my Japanese town. One is officially "Groundhog day" where it's stuck repeating the same day no matter what, and the last is one I'm using to test different theories about this game, without the risk to my main town- one has already been confirmed, you CAN corrupt a physical cartridge copy! Be careful when saving, do NOT take the game out either! Thankfully, it was already a test game at that point, so it didn't matter restarting it.
