I'm just wondering whether or not I should buy a second copy of the game or just get another game instead.

Sorry if there's a thread like this already! :)

Pros: STREETPASSING TO THE MAX (if you have another 3ds)
Cycling town
With two 3ds's you can get freebie dreamies
Another town to have fun with
Experience a different gameplay, make a themed town
Have different characters you wouldnt have in your main town

Cons: two digital copies can lead to corruption
Two acnl's on hard copy on one 3ds can be boring as you cannot interact with each
Loving both towns and not being able to do anything with either( such as cycling or giveaways)
If you want to recreate another town it may be too much time

Just a few to list ~ i have three copies so I know how it feeeeels xF

Pros;
Another 10 villagers to talk to
Different fruit
Change of scenery
Experiment with things you might not otherwise do/build

Cons;
Not being able to decide which would be your main town if you get attached to both
Takes up too much time
You might get confused as to what you donated the museum on which copy
Takes up too much time

Mostly it just takes up too much time lol If you have no other obligations or responsibilities then it might not be so bad.
If you try to put the same amount of love and effort into both towns you won't have time to do anything else with your day.
I guess it would be alright if you just wanted it to mess around or cycle with but to have 2 well developed towns it will eat into your life.
I'm seriously considering getting rid of my second copy.

Edit: It also helps if you're someone who likes to reset a lot, it gets rid of that resetting urge.

Pros
- more animals to befriend
-new layout to enjoy
-new start
-different ideas can be used
-cycle town if wanted

Cons-
- time consuming
- hard to keep up with both if you only have 1 3ds (like me)
- annoying transfering villagers between both of them (if you decide you want one villager in your main town from your second town)

Just very very time consuming to put your heart into another town...i haven't played Palette since Christmas eve. It's very underdeveloped compared to Astoria and that keeps me from playing it more often.

I am someone who likes to reset a lot xP And while I quite like the town I have currently (I have nearly all my dreamies and quite a few bells in the bank) I'm kinda getting the urge again but I don't want to restart after all the effort it took to get my dreamies etc.

I could probably borrow my cousins 3ds if I wanted to interact between the two games only thing is I'm not sure if I'll have the time for two towns but ahh I'm still undecided!

I feel ya I like to reset too and that's another reason why i got the other copy which was supposed to be a cycle town which those are reset frequently. However now i have a bunch of keepers so i'm settling down now. Idk how some people manage 5 towns.

5 towns?? What?!? I've ever only heard of three at most, five is really excessive!

A friend of mine on here told me she knew people that had 5. There was a cycler at one point that cycled 4 towns and i'm guessing she had another personal town on top of that. I don't know if she's active or not anymore but 5 is ridiculous.

I have three towns but one is inactive.

For me, the second town is a japanese town that is my dreamy collector and streetpass bae. Sometimes im too lazy to cycle so i buy dreamies. But for some reason i cant seem to get clyde or carmen while cycling my second town

5 towns seems chaotic. And if their all active? Wow i can hardly handle two.. If it werent for the beautiful ordinance my flowers would all be long gone by now

Is there any more pros and cons that you can think of? I would really like a second copy but I want to be sure it'll be worth the money yano? :P

I used to have two. I found the upkeep of two towns impossible and to be honest kinda boring - and it feels like a real waste when you hit a phase where you just don't feel like playing ACNL. After a while I mostly ended up neglecting my second town. Luckily it was a physical copy - so I sold it on eBay for retail price and I put the money towards a preorder for Pok?mon X. No regrets.

You should really only get a second copy if

1. You can dedicate time to it. $40 game? Then you should be able to spend 40 hours without excessive breaks for months
2. You have a reason. A cycling town? A themed town? If there is no specific purpose then i suggest looking at first point
3. If you don't use it, can you give it away as second hand?
4. You have two 3ds's. I dont know about you, but two copies on one 3ds defeats the fun of getting dreamies and streetpass stuff

I purchased my second copy at gamestop secondhand and if you trade stuff in it makes it a better value. I got my second copy for $2 with trade in credit xD

Hmm okay. I'm afraid I'll end up like that, I go through periods where I don't play acnl at all. And I was also thinking of getting x or y, I can't decide between new acnl or pokemon! I have alpha and omega so maybe it wouldn't be worth getting x/y? I don't know!

It's a completely different region and story from ORAS, so I'd recommend it. :)

Hmm good point. I think I'd try and get a preowned version so out would be cheaper. I think I'd like to have either a fairy tale or natural/wood themed town. I could always give it away to my cousin and I don't have two 3ds' but I could borrow my cousins. She lives right beside me so it shouldn't be a problem.

Haha so many different opinions! xP

I have another downloadable copy I could play but it seems daunting! I feel like it would turn into a chore (playing two games) and that's not what I want ACNL to be about! At the same time, if you had a second cartridge you could always start a cycling town (if that's something you'd be interested in)!

Yeah I wouldn't mind having a cycle town but if rather play normally. Would it not be worth it for that purpose?

Pros:
-You can do whatever without wrecking one town or the other
-You can have more villagers
-You can hold onto more stuff than before

Cons:
-You'll have to watch for both towns
-Can't SpotPass on one
