The Plot Reset Chat Thread

After 3 hours.. Finally!
He's near tangy, just below the pond and a bit to the left phew as close as he could get plus when Octavian and Mira go they will be the only 2 villagers on the lower half so the connection will be easily seen
Now I can sleep! Going to die tomorrow but it's Friday so yay

I'm probably 100 tries in. I have an in class AP essay to study for and pokemon to play with my senior friends.

Is there only 1 perfect spot? If so, I'm sorry :(
LISTEN TO HER!!! NOW PURRL!
I shall give my good luck vibes to you, in hopes Purrl will listen

I'm not too picky when trying to choose plots, so it's never taken me too many tries. I just don't want them on my paths or blocking half a bridge or whatever.

But the last two times I've done the villager plot reset trick, it hasn't worked. As in, my new character has seen NO new lot roped off, yet one's there later when the Mayor shows up.

I've got 2 towns. It first happened last week when I knew Fang was moving in. I did everything just like I always do, ran around with the new character (I always name him "Zoney") looking for plots, saw nothing ANYWHERE (and I've learned the hard way to look at every square of the ground) and thought, "Okay, Fang's not moving in today." So I went in with my Mayor. And did my usual running around town. Sometime in the late morning (in game time) I noticed that SUDDENLY there's a plot for Fang -- it's like it sprung up in the middle of a session, in the middle of a day! Fortunate the placement was OK.

But tonight I had Broccolo moving into my 2nd town, and went in to check where he'd be. Today's Thursday. Redd had been in that town all day. I TT'd to Friday morning @ 5:58 AM, as usual, ducked out, went in with my brand-new Zoney at like 6:02. Nothing was significantly different from the night before. No new plot... anywhere. I had watered 2 white carnations, hoping for a third -- but no new ones had appeared. Much weirder than that, Redd's tent was STILL in the plaza, after being there all day Thursday. I know Redd leaves before 6AM the next day!

So I didn't change the time, I quit without saving, and went in with my Mayor, so it was about 6:05 or so by then. Redd's tent was gone; I had a new white carnation; and there was Broccolo's lot, in a spot I couldn't POSSIBLY have missed seeing it.

I'm starting to wonder if one of the "Update Data" things I'd done recently didn't contain something from Nintendo that fixed the house-placement reset trick. I have TT'd a lot (in basically 3-day leaps, through August 2014) in my second town, so I can see it messing up if that happened to be a day I'd already TT'd to (I was farming a lot of perfect fruit, FAST). But I don't go that far ahead in my first town -- not more than a week, in small leaps.

Any thoughts, or weird observations from other people who do this a lot?

I haven't updated my data yet and this makes me scared too

I do some resets on my cycle town and noticed this...
You CANNOT go to make a new character until AFTER it has past 6am!!
If you select new character at 5:59am, it will still count it as THE DAY BEFORE NOT THAT DAY even though after you get off the train it maybe 6:02 or 6:05 ect. The came will STILL count it as the day before.
That may have been your problem.
I noticed that only because I planted a tree and it didn't grow any. XP

I don't even know if the Update Data thing can fix a glitch in a game. My games are both cartridges, not built-in. But it seems like if Nintendo can send us gifts and stuff, it could slip in tweaks to the game code, too. It's really starting to hack me off, after happening twice in a row.

^ try what the above person posted. That's what I always do. I really hope Nintendo can't do this to us..That's why I'm not updating until later

I have my data completely up to date.
I am thinking it was my theory on what happened to you.

ALSO
If you have less than 9 villagers, a villager CAN randomly move in any day up 7 days. ((one should move in by the 7th day. period.))
So, when you made a new character and no one was there is was on one of the chance days a villager COULD have moved in but hadn't... but since you didn't save with the new character when no new plot was showing, when your mayor goes in a new villager COULD move in because one can randomly move in any day up to 7.

EDIT
but again have to remember the time rule thing I posted last page

I can see how that would mess it up. So, what counts as the moment the new character's created? Do we know?

When I'm creating the new character with Rover, I go nice and slow now (I didn't always, but still always got handed the porter's map at 6:01 or later). I commonly stop and wait 30 seconds, by my wris****ch [OMG... the watch I wear on my wrist, jeeeez!] , between replies to questions, just to make sure that 2 entire minutes have passed before I get off the train. That's always how I've done it. And the first thing I do when I get off the train and stop talking to Porter is check the time... it's always at least 6:01.

Next time I'm gonna set a timer after the Mayor TTs and saves/quits, and not even restart the game until 6:05. It's just weird that all the sudden it has failed twice in a row.

I am 100% positive on this.
If you don't believe me, then test this.
Water flowers RIGHT NEXT to your trainstation.
Make a new character at 5:58/59 and get off train AFTER 6am.
They flowers will still be sparkling from where you watered them.
Quit game - don't save.
Make new character ((after 6am now)) and those flowers won't be sparkling any more which means it's a new day. =3

The sparkling flowers is, I think, the fastest way to make sure that it is a new day in the town.
Since, after all, it's a "new day" so no flowers would be watered yet. ^-^

Both of these fails were on the towns' 10th villagers, so no, wasn't that.

It'll be hard for me to test it again unless I TT my 2nd game up to like September and start playing essentially 6 months ahead for awhile (since I hopscotched all through March/April/May/June/July and can't know which days I already landed on). I might actually move that game up 6 months just to figure this out. It just seems very weird that I've always done the same exact thing, just making sure that I don't RUSH through creating the new character, and no problem until recently.

Mostly I just wondered if anybody else chimed in and said, "yeah, this is happening to me too." I guess not. You're probably right despite what my game clock said.

I normally zoned out when on the train with Rover so I normally did get off after 6am...
I only noticed that the game was still set in the day before because my trees didn't grow any and my flowers were still sparkling.
... which meant they the game hadn't went over to the new day yet.
Only way I noticed or I never would have. XP

... and why would you have to get it to September before you test? -is confused by that entire part of post-

I am typoing too much tonight...
Screw fixing them... I'm sure everyone can figure out what I am saying.

LOL @ typos. You're perfectly understandable!

The September thing is because recently I was using my 2nd town mostly to farm perfect fruit. It was a fast way to pile up bells... starting in early March, I TT'd ahead in usually 3-day intervals to get to the next ripe crop, harvest, replant where necessary, TT ahead ANOTHER 3 days, harvest, pile up gobs and gobs of perfect apples, and take them to my main town to sell for 27,000 bells per basket of 9. It beat beetle farming by miles. I basically stopped apple farming, in the game's time, around the end of July or early August, and came back to real time... so, to the game, I've already been in as Mayor on who knows how many (or which) dates between March and August 2014.

Since I've been dropping in and out like Doctor Who, there's no way to know what dates I've already opened the game as an existing character between now and September. So I can't do a fair test of the reset trick there. (I'm hoping not to lose anyone in my 1st town!)

Oh. I had to read it 3 times to get what you were getting at.
Basically you are saying you've played "every day" up to September then BACK to real date time and you think the reset trick won't work because you've already "played" those days?
That shouldn't matter.
Since to the villagers they constantly move ahead, even when you move back, when it comes to move ins and move outs.
The only things that would be "the same" on a day you have played would be shop stock.
... hope that makes sense @.@

So.. this tactic really helped me so far.
I TT'ed backward to the day that I asked fuchsia to move in using the DS clock, and placed a fence where
she kept previously placing her house.

She was 2 blocks away from the perfect area in just 3 tries, compared to the 80 I've tried without the fence
being put up. -- That being said, I recommend!

AFTER 15 TRIES GUYS. (actually 95)
Fuchsia is in the perfect spot <3
/cries YAAAAAAY!~
