Hey you guys Its Seccom Masada here with a not helpful not thought provoking post on paths! (magical right?)

either way here's a post about paths.

In all honesty paths are odd creatures receiving mixed views from Animal Crossing players far and wide, They can prove to be a valuable asset or a restrictive force. To be honest I love paths I think they can really add some life to your town for example here's a beautiful way to use paths:

(N.B. this image does not belong to me! all Images belong to their respective owners I did not make this etc.)

As you can probably see These paths add a lot of character/life to this landscape Making it look organized and clean. This is here paths look good and are functional.

now we move on to our next kind of path

The One Tilers

Paths that only use one tile instead of two generally irk me (example below)

They don't really fit with bridges or houses and adding flora on either sides of them requires a lot of thought While I understand why some players may want to use said paths in all honesty I think the paths break the town rather than making it Furthermore the path seen in Image is far too colorful for my liking as i tend to prefer a grey or brown path as it keeps a sense of realism.

Either way I believe I need to draw this post to its conclusion as it was originally intended to be a query rather a than an overview of paths, so here are some questions for the reader too follow.

1. What path are you currently using

2. How do you set up your paths (as in how do you place them around a villagers home, the cafe, the plaza and or public works projects)

3. what are your views on paths and is there anything that really annoys you about them

Thank you for reading! I apologize if my views may be in conflict with yours but they are my opinion and everyone has a different opinion so please do not take this post very seriously.

edit

I forgot to add that I actually need help adding paths too my town.

If anyone reading wishes to, could you please: post images of how you'd build a path around retail or other landmarks such as public works, as well as how to decorate or make a path look interesting without altering its design once again thanks for reading this.

well i think it depends on what path you have really if you have a modern/brick one then i'd say covering the default stone pattern around retail/trainstation ect. and having edges/corners to them helps them to look really clean and neat!
but if you're using a more natural one then i wouldnt cover up the stone~

i use a my own stepping stone pattern ones that blends into grass the other ones that blend into dirt

^^ thats my town, and the thing with more natural paths is that they don't have to go in straight lines and they use up less space in your design slots!

I should mention that, although I love Akidas' town to death, Natural paths do use a lot of lucky clovers which can be a bit expensive, as I found out recently. xD

I have no screenshots of my town, but I do a mixture of both PR code paths and natural paths with clovers. With my PR code paths being my main road and my natural paths being my side roads. As a personal preference, I don't care too much for towns that use too many patterns and I'm not a fan of "water paths" because we already have rivers and ponds that kinda break brake the illusion to me, but that is just my particular opinion.
I would recommend drawing out your pathes on a physical copy of your town map and don't think the quickest route to a building is the best one.
But my best advice is to go to different towns and get inspired that way. I recently realized that I could use some really cool space around my town center and decided to re-do a path to make room. Kind of a pain, but I'm learning.

aha thank you~ the only annoying thing is having to change the colour of the grass when it changes in game

thank you!!

but yes sadly clovers can end up quite costly i'm thinking of having the clovers more sporadically spread about and just fill in the gaps when i can~

This is a great post, thanks for posting.
I've only recently started playing ACNL - ACWW was my first ever game a few years back but I'd never actually planned out any paths. I've started to create a nice folder full of ideas which should give me some inspiration when it comes to me planning my paths around my town :)

Thank you xsilver! im happpy it helped!

Thanks for the ideas! my worst is when you find a path you like you lay it down and you hate it :W;

It has indeed. I like to see other peoples towns - see the layouts, how everything is put together etc. It's great to get ideas from others that you can, in your own way, put into your very own town. At the minute I'm currently working on a Battenburg cake flower colour theme - Pink and Yellow flowers, around my town with splashes of orange and white thrown in. I'm not even half way yet but I'm loving the variety of different hybrids I have within the flower mixes - Cosmos, Roses and Tulips :)

I use a mixture of two tile paths and one tile paths (with a couple of three tile spots where it goes through the rose arch and wisteria trellis)

The two/three tile paths are a pink tile that leads around to most of the major landmarks in my town, then the one tile path is the same one as in the top image in the first post

I've also got some flower/mossy brick path tiles that I've used randomly throughout my town, mostly to break up large areas of flowers

I don't have any screenshots handy but you can always visit my dream town, the address is in my signature :)

I personally feel that paths add a nice level of organization. I'm not necessarily opposed to bright colored paths because I've seen them work in some towns. However, I do prefer a combination of 2/3tile and 1 tile paths with a more natural feel. I'm waiting to actually get my dreamies, then I'll properly path my town

OMG I hate paths and dont know how to path.

I just had to say that. But thanks for the advice! I might not path still though.

I really love how water paths look in other peoples towns, but when I try to place my own they look too out of place. :(

I'm currently using my own path designs:

However I never had this path design when I first started. I used a grey cobblestone design that I designed. I laid it out as a 1 wide tile path and connected it to all the buildings. Then I came back and widened the path when I felt the layout connected every part of my town. I also changed my path a couple of times. I was never happy with the designs I drew. So here are some of my designs from the past:

The paths I don't like are nature paths... I don't like the green nature path cuz it doesn't change with the seasons. I also don't like narrow paths. Narrow paths are flower killers. Finally I don't like path that doesn't serve its purpose to guide people. There was a town I visited where the path leads to no where. I had to look down at the town map constantly. It wasn't very fun when my time is wasted on looking at the map and not enjoying the views.

I'm planning to create a few of my own paths eventually but for the mean while, I'm going to draw up my town and start working out where I want the basic paths to be. I have designs in mind but I need to put it all on paper first :)

Love your designs TeeTee. Also love how you've set your pink and white roses out <3

I'm thinking of going a more natural route as well. I'd love to add water paths but they do always look weird or are too skinny. >_<

Here are some of the areas around my town:

The nature path that I have has different seasonal variations so all I will have to do is go to the tailor shop and scan over the ones I have for this season with next seasons and bam, it's updated for the season without having to be kicked up and changed out. For me I wanted all of my paths to be neat and orderly (I'm so OCD) It tends to bother me when I go to towns that have such random landscaping. All of my areas are themed by trees and flowers by color as I saw fit I don't have any excess flowers lying around town (the beach is another story). My town isn't totally done yet, but it's about 80% complete I would say.
