I never thought I'd use paths, as I love the original cobblestone around the plaza, Town Hall, and Re-Tail. But after a month of playing, the grass wear was becoming noticeable. It wasn't so bad as a natural path, but I didn't like how it looked like mud connecting with the cobblestone. My first path matched the cobblestone for a continuous feeling.
But...I after a while, I realized I didn't like the edge of the path. Because there wasn't one. I lined it with flowers, but that didn't help. So, I tried a new path with a definite edge. Now, I'm a stickler when it comes to paths. My other requirement was that the path was multi-seasonal. Since only the grass changes though, and bushes and flowers don't die during the winter, I could live with the ivy in the winter and fall. I considered recoloring the green to orange, light blue, and lime green.
Here are examples of how I've been decorating with the path:
My only remaining qualm is that I chose a grey path to match the cobblestone bridges I have. However...my town feels very gloomy on cloudy days as the path nearly matches the sky. I've considered switching to the same path in brown or another similar one. Maybe even a path I can change per season. In the end, as long as you're happy with your path, or lack thereof, that's all that matters.
