The Little Yellow Bird

Ok so in some videos in youtube I have noticed the yellow bird that sings on the bulletin board?
What does it do?, is it just there to sing or what?

I thought the animals were residents! It'd be like if one of the cows came to my house and offered me a burger.

I found this sort of wierd. Aren't animals supposed to be as tall as your character? Unless all of the villagers are freaks, I don't think this is right.
