I can't carry all of the fruit; I can only bring some. I'm going to drop it off with my alt character, leave and come back with my main character.

This thread seems a bit pointless as you can just notify your friends when you're online through the actual 3DS rather than running to your computer just to tell people that you're online...
I might be wrong, but I was pretty sure that you would be able to speak to people on your friends list even if they weren't in your town?

if you add them to your best friend list yes...but that only for the 32 out of number of friends you have on your 3ds list.

And to add on to this, there are some who do use the 3DS friends list to let everyone know by changing their message to "open" but most of the time they are never open. :/
