When I first heard this, I remember thinking it was funny, since I knew a Teresa at the time.

Apparently, it comes from the Japanese word Tereru meaning "to be shy", and is about how the Boos hide whenever you get close to them.

You all probably know this, but I've never bothered looking up Japanese names for Mario, but Kinpio is Toad's name. I only learned that because someone gave me chocolate, last year, that I guess came from Japan?

Speaking of, the name "Kinopio" actually derives from the japanese word for mushrooms which is "kinoko". Just like when the English localized name "Toad" is derived from "toadstool" which is a type of mushroom.
