Apple Imperialist
I may already have a blog entry over the entire series and how I rank them, but I'm going deeper into ACNL, part-by-part. I'll talk about what I liked about each feature best and what I hated about each feature.
Originally, this was going to be my third entry of the month, but due to the collectibles and stuff, I decided to delay my review of ACNL. But the wait is over. If you have read my model outline for an ACNL guide, you can see how I split into parts.
Anyhow, I may begin the review of ACNL and their startup/town creation/saving features.
Creating a new town:
BEST - choosing a map. Although the frustrating part is that you have to keep trying for several hours, I like it that the town generates maps before you create rather than automatically generate a map from the beginning.
WORST - although I am okay with the quest where you raise your approval rating, that is not as enjoyable as the rest of town creation steps.
Creating a new character:
BEST - choosing where you live. I remembered back in the previous versions (GameCube Version being the most infamous), you have a limited choice. Now you are free to move your house wherever you want.
WORST - Reset Villager Trick. This is very tedious and time consuming. It is hard to control where your animals live. That, and it's not an official way to create a character. If there was a way to control where your animals live next game, this trick is obsolete.
Starting your game:
BEST - Time Traveling. This has been my favorite startup feature since the very beginning. If you want PWPs done quick or houses to immediately remodel, I can time travel. That, and you can control some of the disadvantages with Beautiful Town ordinance.
WORST - Update Data. Has Nintendo even released an update in a while? I can understand that they're busy, but I like having updates.
Saving your Game:
BEST - you have an option to allow Resetti or not. I really hate it that he keeps popping out each time you don't save. Not only that, but you can tell him why you reset. I find it funny that he tells you to "keep your batteries charged" or when he sympathizes if your game froze. I would also say that you can only choose to save your game by pressing START now.
WORST - data corruption. Although I have never experienced this, it sounds very grim, especially if you worked hard on a town like StarFall. I'm not deleting my town no matter what.
Overall:
BEST - choosing where you live. New Leaf has a lot of new features, but the best of the features related to this subject is that you can choose any place you want to live. So everyone can have a beach house.
WORST - data corruption. This is the #1 thing nobody wants in a video game, especially if they progressed very far. This isn't the worst of New Leaf, but I rather deal with the worst of New Leaf than have a corrupted town.
I may be done reviewing the Basics of Data section, but this is just the beginning. Stay tuned for another entry on the Best and Worst of New Leaf.
