The ACNH Rant Thread

I time traveled back to June to play the wedding event and earn the wedding furniture again since I lost everything when I accidentally deleted my save file. I invited favorite villagers including Colton, my most favorite villager. I had given Colton many fine gifts of elegant clothing and also a royal crown. I don't mind him displaying these in his house since they match his style and he was wearing them all regularly. But then after the anniversary party, the Reese and Cyrus hideous wedding photo plate appeared in Colton's house. I had forgotten that villagers invited to the anniversary photo party might display the plate. So after seeing it in Colton's house numerous times, I thought that I'd just move him out and invite him back with Amiibo later even though I'd have to rebuild friendship level with him. Then when I was visiting Molly's house, where the plate had also been on display, I noticed that it was no longer on display, so I googled the wedding plates. And I learned that the wedding plate won't necessarily be displayed permanently. So, I could've kept Colton and waited for the plate to stop being displayed. Gah. I love Reese and Cyrus but the wedding photo plate is the worst. Also, I learned that I should look things up before acting, lol.

Another rant is that while I love Reneigh, she is never crafting and still hasn't given me the iron garden chair recipe. I really hate how the game gives you 10,000 repeats of recipes you don't want before it gives you at least one of each. And Halloween season is the worst because I've received the Spooky Cookies recipe 5,000 times and I don't want to enable cooking yet, until I've received all the DIYs I want because there's nothing more annoying than villagers giving you food recipes when you still haven't received basic useful DIYs like the iron garden chair.

I do wish mystery islands did a better job at prioritizing the personalities your island is lacking. I have been in the process of getting my villager count to 10 (since I believe it helps with the island rating). I have an extra jock, an extra normal, and I have my cranky villager (Rooney via Amiibo) moving in tomorrow. I am still lacking a snooty. I tried to do some island hopping in hopes of getting one, but it was to no avail. In fact, it kept giving me more jock villagers even though I already have two. Why, though?

Another thing is -- I don't like how quickly villagers can auto-fill. I do have my favorite snooty--Astrid's Amiibo card, but I do not even know if I should start the process of Amiibo-ing her in, as I fear that my 10th plot will just be auto-filled before the third day. I think there should be some set time frames (a week sounds fair) before a villager can auto-fill. For example, a week after the plot has been placed/cleared and/or a week after someone last moved in.

So yeah, I am in a bit of a predicament. >_<

Stones are harder to get than iron nuggets!
I have such a hard time with getting stone. I went to 6 mystery islands the other day . I got double the amount of iron and clay than I got of stone. It seems when I am looking for a specific material I get the ones I don’t need. It didn’t help that I invited Mineru to my island and she wanted the tall garden rock that needed 60 stone.

I wish we had more villager slots. Having 10 isn't enough, especially when new characters are being added. Maybe 15 like og Animal Crossing, or even 20. I really hope they increase the limit in the next game.

I thought it was only me! Thanks for sharing your experience. Getting stones lately is becoming a pain. Most of the stuff I needed to decorate my island uses them.

Your welcome, Yea that’s my problem. For my newest island I really need a lot of stone. Almost all the DIY’s need a good amount of stone. Good luck getting stone.

The 7 p.m. music is extremely unsettling, especially the low moaning sound in the background--I just have to take off my headphones if I play during that time. I'd like to say that overall I like NH's music but I can't. It always seemed like the best music was in the GC version and it continually went downhill after that.

I really like the game but, now that I’ve played all of them (besides the original and the deplorable for Wii U) it just doesn’t feel like an animal crossing game. It’s a sandbox game. You just build stuff. And there’s nothing inherently wrong with that. I think decorating is really fun in New Horizons. But it doesn’t feel like Animal Crossing.
New Leaf, which is a better AC game in practically every aspect, felt like it had so much more to it. Yes there was plenty of customization and decoration, I love decorating my house and finishing public works projects in the game. But it also just felt so much deeper in aspects like hanging out with the villagers and building bonds with them. Another example would be Main Street. It starts as a small street with like 5 simple buildings but after lots of dedication it grows into basically a whole city. But in new horizons, the closest thing to Main Street would be like 4 buildings you can place on your island. And the only ones that even upgrade are the shop and museum, both in very minor ways. The shop upgrades ONCE which is insane compared to the other games. And all that gets done in like a week or two tops, with relatively little effort.
The Main Street (and I guess the city in let’s go to the city folk) is just one example of how much more depth the older animal crossing games had. In new horizons practically everything is dedicated to just customization and building and it feels really boring and flat, at least in comparison to the rest of the series.
Again, the sandbox aspects of the game are fun, I like them. But it just feels lacking in depth when that’s literally it. They make it all about building and decorating and basically nothing else.

I loved the little Main Street in NL and can't disagree about NH's Nook store (would love to see an upgrade for that, especially with the hotel) but at the same time NL was a little town somewhere in an already established land while NH is set on a deserted island, and Harv's island with his hippie flea market is basically the shopping area for it, and if you haven't paid all the bribes to get them they'll still show up in your town occasionally, much like the earlier ones did in WW. I remember before I got NH trying to start a new NL town and realizing it wasn't compelling enough to do again, plus I was having a hard time seeing on the tiny screen of my 3DS-XL. There are things I loved about NL and miss, like all the extra fruits, the baskets of fruit, and probably most of all the island and Tortimer tours. I also remember saying to my kids shortly after it came out, 'Wouldn't it be great if we could have even just one outside area for our houses we could decorate? You know, like a little side yard or something?'

In NH there's always so much to do that it's easy to lose focus on my villagers but generally I don't. I get crafting recipes, we exchange gifts, visit each other's homes, and play games (although it'd be nice to have more than high-card, low-card). And I love how they'll just randomly run up and give you something--and best of all I can get their pictures and hang them on the walls of my very large, well-decorated (or not depending what I have on hand), house. Oh sure, the dialog gets old but what do I expect out of a group of basically animated stuffed animals anyway? Oh! And one of the REALLY big things for me in NH is that I don't have to write letters! In WW it was fine because it was got down to basically a code and much could be copied and pasted. I could attach a real keyboard to the Wii for CF. But trying to do letters in NL was a pain. Also there's no eye strain as my Switch is attached to my computer monitor.

Sometimes I really wish that other players could help you get fish, bugs and sea creatures.... The spawn rates for some of them are
abysmally bad. The challenge isn't even fun after a certain point. (At least I can bulk craft bait now)

I'm finally trying to fill out the collections, and I just can't get the stringfish or the fly to spawn...

I'm not a fan of the bait system. I like the old style walking the bank and fish spawning at a rate where I can just stop and catch them. Instead with the bait I have to get close enough to the water to throw it in, then back up when the fish spawns, wash, rinse, repeat. Now most of the fish I catch are just the ones I see when I happen to be walking by--I rarely go fishing like I did in earlier games.

In 2026, our mail can hold more than 300 mail slots. Why can't we order more than just 5? The only way around this is if you have multiple users on your island, that being,8, and have them order 5 cardboard boxes eac,h which in total that would be 40 but of course you had to constantly log in and log out of each character order them and then go back to their mailboxes the next day and then you can get it. It is so time-consuming. I really wish there was an easier way.

I am ranting about this because the god I had to craft so many Cardboard Box Furniture for Kapp'n, you would not believe how long this took me. I feel like I am losing my mind. Don't even get me started on the Trash DIY items and, of course, the Flower Wreaths!

I was wondering just yesterday what happens when the request box gets filled up with a bunch of stuff I can't craft because of limited resources (think seasonal or whatever), because I can see that happening, like how I had to waste a bunch of snowflakes on an order of three of the ski slope wallpapers. At least it's possible to order cardboard boxes, although the player shouldn't have to actually buy anything to make the stuff to ship. I'd like to see the mail order limit of 5 upped to at least ten. At least as soon as one ships another order takes its place.

I would like to have a better multi-player system: for 2 villagers in the same island or best friends visiting. Island decoration having someone else would be super fun

I really don't understand why Nintendo is still using this stupid, outdated multiplayer system, especially on Switch 2. I mean, you would've thought when they introduced the whole 12 players, they would go for a brand new multiplayer joining service, but instead rely on this stupid-loading-stop-what-you 're-doing-just-to-look-at-who-was-leaving-or-who-is-arriving nonsense.

Seriously, who even has the time to wait that long just for players to arrive? Why can't it just be "This player joined the island," so it doesn't interrupt anyone, and everyone can keep doing what they are doing instead of having to wait for someone to leave or arrive? Nintendo really missed an opportunity to improve the Switch 2's online system.
