Here are a couple screenshots from my map:

As you can see, I don't give villagers much of a yard in front or back. I included a screenshot of my island so you could see how I arranged all their homes. I'm a neat freak for the most part, and was primarily concerned with symmetry.

exactly - waiting for the dream suite rn, even though i get jealous whenever i see these islands, lmao
That would probably be the most ideal way to experience islands. It would be great if we got a Dream Suite, but I won't hold my breath.

It looks great! I'm not too worried about symmetry, personally. You have Mott!

I do have Mott! He shares a birthday (July 10th) with my best friend, so I had to have him.

He and Rex look like cousins or something. They're not exactly the same looking, but Mott's eyes are closed and has this swurvy smile while Rex's eyes are open and has a C shaped smile. Both of them have three dots on both sides of their cheeks. Mott's is a triangle shape and Rex's is an upside down triangle shape. Leopold and Lionel also look related.

If we had a map the size of Animal Crossing on the GameCube, I'd probably feel a bit more content. You could have 15 animal villagers living in your town in that game. Maybe I'm just overthinking. I don't know. I'm going to keep trying, of course. It's just really frustrating to me.

The map is actually larger than the Gamecube map. Time a run while subtracting load screens and you'll see if takes a little bit longer to run across the New Horizons map. It just feels smaller because you get to decorate it. You'll find when you start filling in all that empty space it's feels a lot smaller. Your river is also larger than on Gamecube due to the fork, so that takes up a lot of room too.

I think the buildings were also smile in terms of tile-size in the earlier games, so that eats up more space as well. It also doesn't help that in the Gamcecube game and in City Folk, the cliffs went all the way to the edge of the screen, whereas in New Horizons they stop at the beaches, which now expand to all sides. That also makes it feel smaller. It is true the map is bigger, but those games had less beach area and therefore felt larger. If we didn't have the two side beaches, we'd have an additional 3/4ths of acre of space to build on.

Row A is practically useless, and row F leaves us with the beach down south. Row A leaves us with very little to work with. Animal Crossing for the GameCube had used up row A, but with buildings that were out of the way. That at least left room for houses. The island map leaves you with B through E. You can use row F, but placing houses there makes it feel crowded.
