Am I the only one seriously sick of the south, especially Texas in general? They're stuck in 1638, but the rest of us are trying to move on. But this bill really annoys me. They keep trying to shove Christian beliefs down everyones throat, when this is a country free from religion, with atheistic and deist founders. I have no problem with religion, you can believe whatever you want. I just really wish it would stop creeping into our government and education.
^ My thoughts exactly.
Stuff it. Don't be generalistic *censored.1.3*s. You don't see me shoving my beliefs down your throats. And I don't know where you're gettig this information. Based on this one school's decision? Also, Texas, as well as many other states are tryig to change the government because, frankly, the government sucks right now.
We're not talking about one school here, we're talking about the Board of Education for the state of Texas. They decide what is to be included in the curriculum and since Texas is such a huge buyer of books, as a result it influences greatly what gets printed in the textbooks for the rest of the nation. It's not a situation where the state is trying to change the government, it's a situation where a select faction of a government body is trying to change history and influence in their favor what is taught to children.
Still doesn't affect me. Regardless, I see what you're saying and I agree that what they're trying to do is wrong.

Yes I hate the south, nothing but ignorant discriminating pricks.

Nothing but nasty Christians who shove their religion down everyone's throats.

They should just die.

I really don't know if that was sarcasm or not, but if it was, then no, I don't feel that strongly about them. Just a general dislike for their government.

Their

That sounds racist. (un)

The North and the South are like a married couple going through problems and both are just so stupid to realize there is an inbetween.

I swear nothing pisses me off more than the diversity of views of the north and south and generalizing that if your from one spot then you must be a certain way.

This. And Pear, you didn't just say the government, you said the south. So, the south in general.

Umm yeah... textbooks can be biased, just as the news is. Honestly I watch fox and get sick. I watch NBC and get annoyed. I watch the daily show and that maintains my sanity if only cause they mock what I hate in the others. CNN... actually fairly balanced... but reeeeeaaaaaalllly boooooooooorrrrring.

Now with the textbooks though it does annoy me some of what they want to push. Was the country founded by Christians? Mainly yes, but they set the idea that religions based on the idea of peace and love should not be discriminated against! By claiming this is a Christian nation you ARE discriminating against that poor kid who happens to be a Buddhist and feels alienated by the comment. That is wrong. Can you say what people settled the Americas yes, but the idea the this country is one of free religion is a huge one.

This. And Pear, you didn't just say the government, you said the south. So, the south in general.
Sorry, dickish wording on my part. I don't hate the south by any means, I've got a ton of relatives in Tennessee.

To clear things up, I wasn't generalizing anything. I know tons of religious people who aren't trying to convert me to their religion. I also have no problem with religion, if people are religious, great for them. But I do agree that church and state should be separated and by texas doing these schoolbook revisions it does seem they are trying to have some influence. Then again, I am completely aware that all textbooks (specifically history) have some bias.

Yeah, you phrased it better than I did.
