terrible shirt epidemic among the villagers. is there a cure?

so i love bianca a lot, but since she's moved into my town, the entire community - as in 6/10 of my villagers, has been afflicted with a grave case of the 'red down jacket' and it's actually making me high-key hate my characters lmfao.

i've added more wearable designs to able's, but they aren't wearing them. i've gone to isabelle and asked her to tell villagers to stop wearing the shirt, but unlike in the past when this would change the villager's shirt back to a basic one, it's not working anymore??? i have very set villager houses so i don't want to risk sending anyone any shirts in the mail.

anyone have any tips on how to get rid of the dreaded jacket plague?

I usually mail the shirt I want them to wear to them! It may take a couple tries but that usually works for me!

they don't put it in their house when you mail them shirts? i thought they did or that there was a chance of it

There is a chance that they will put it in their house, so if you're one of those mayors who can't stand the thought of unoriginal villagers, I think you're unfortunately going to have to just wait for them to change their shirts of their own accord.

Another option that I've heard others describe is to mail them the shirt, save and quit, reload the game after 5 p.m. when the mail is delivered, and check to see if they're wearing the shirt. If not, quit without saving and reload again. Evidently the game can randomly change whether they choose to wear it, display it, carry it around, etc. I haven't tried this method myself, though, since I enjoy watching my villagers' houses change over time, so I just mail them shirts if I want to get rid of some awful outfit.

Yes, there's a chance for them to just put it up in their house so I usually keep mailing it until they wear it! And then when they invite me over to their house, I try to buy the extras they put up!

Omfg right about now I'd KILL for a "red down jacket" epidemic!!!!!! Some idiot (not sure who.but I think it was Curlos whom I actually adore) has spread the "bad plaid shirt" all around my town!!!!!!! See on him.,.on Curlos it doesn't look SO bad cause yknow he only wears a scarf..but everyone else it's like OMFG no!!!!!!
The shirt is freaking titled "BAD PLAID SHIRT" it's BAD!!!!!! Don't wear it!!!!!
I had NO idea I could go to Isabella and tell her to but the kibosh on it...how does one go about this?

Got the same problem, but it was the bear costume, everybody wore the bear costume and it was kind of weird.

that sounds rly awful and i'm sorry you're having to deal with it, tbh! yeah, the sheep are misleading bc most stuff looks fine on them but then...on someone else...

yeah you can go to isabelle, pick the option that's for troublesome villagers, then the 'wrong clothing' option and then she asks if you want her to make the villager change clothes. but it hasn't been working for me lately so i'm not actually sure what the conditions for it are.

The wrong clothes option with Isabelle only works for pattern designs now.

Only in City Folk it worked for both regular clothes and pattern designs.

Just a quick note: If ya reset someone's quote, it's very likely that animal will look for ya for a new phrase. Or so I've heard...

The one in my town is the argyle knit shirt, Kiki's ugly sweater. It was cute around Christmas time, but now I'm sick of it. There's always the option of telling Isabelle that you don't like their clothing and it'll switch to the blue gym tee, which in some cases isn't nearly as bad as the epidemic.
