Terms and Phrases Master Thread

Can anyone tell me what 'cycling' is? I saw it on a thread whilst looking for Punchy and it made me extremely confused :S :P
Thanks

Ah yeah, cycling should definitely be a term in the first post! Cycling refers to the process of moving out 16 villagers to be able to have a previously owned villager move back into your town.

To give you an example: Let's say Punchy unexpectedly moves out of someone's town, and they really want to have him back. However, the game won't let them invite Punchy into their town (nor will he show up randomly) until at least another 16 villagers have moved out. So when people unexpectedly lose a villager they loved and want them back, they need to move out another 16 villagers first. This is cycling. If you see something like "Cycling for Punchy, 5/16", this means they have moved out 5 villagers out of the necessary 16 before they can get Punchy again. Hope this makes things a bit more clear for you!

When I was working on my catalog, I came across quite a few people who didn't really get what it meant to just catalog an item.

TITLE OF WORD Cataloging
  • DEFINITION
To pick up an item and then drop it for the purpose of making it appear in your catalog.

To explain it further- You get the catalog when you upgrade to the Nook's convenience store. It's the red machine that lets you order things that you have!

That cycling this is still doing my head in but I get it a lot more now xDDD
Onward! For my quest to obtain Punchy xP

Plot resetting

This method is is used to predict where a villagers house plot will go, using this method will avoid villagers moving in bad spots. A basic description of this method is when a new villager is moving in start a new save file, DO NOT LOAD YOUR MAYOR! Go through the speech with rover and make it to your town. Porter will tell you to go to the town hall, don't! Instead look around carefully to see where the villagers house is, if you don't like the placement shut off the game and repeat until you find a spot that you like. Once you found the spot you like go to the town hall and place your house, the game will save making the plot permanent ~

Lucky Clovers: Rare 4 leafed plants that look like the flattened weeds but you can wear it/pick it up/plant it some where else in town. It is very rare so I suggest holding on to it c:

People will pay a lot for these if they really want them, usually go for 99k-100k

Cat
  • Short way of saying "Catalog".

Example: "Can I cat this?"

Jessica's definition for a dreamie is correct. The other one isn't because you could like a villager but not have it as a dreamie.

The Void
It's a place kept under the surface of the game. When a villager moves out but doesn't get adopted it will stay in your void and anyone visiting or being visited by you have a chance of having the moved out villager to move into their town instead.
You can clear the void by visiting a town that has 10 villagers already, since there is only a chance the villager will move into the new town you might need to visit several times before the void is actually cleared. :)
