As we all know, villagers ping us when they want to tell us they're moving or to ask us for something (deliveries, fruit, time capsules, etc.) But is there a way to tell what kind of ping it is before actually talking to them?

For example, yesterday Antonio pinged me while I was talking to Deirdre, and he was dancing while he waited for me. However, by the time I was done talking to Deirdre, his ping was 'cancelled' (so to speak) and he wouldn't tell me what it was he had wanted. Now I'm scared he was pinging me about wanting to move, though the fact that he had been happily dancing after I got the ping makes me think that maybe he was just gonna ask for a favor.

So is there a way to tell what he had wanted? Was his dancing a sign that it wasn't a ping to move out?

they always do that. I've had enough pings happen when talking to other villagers, and the dancing always happens.
it'd be nice if pings were different in some way, depending on what they wanted.

So it could have been a ping to move? I'll be so disappointed if he moves and I could have prevented it. It took me weeks to find him for my town because he's tier 5 :(

Just wait till tomorrow and talk to your villagers to see if they say something like "I herd (villager) is moving".

yeah. however, it shouldn't be too hard to ensure it wasn't a ping to move/fix it if it was! talking to other villagers to get rumor talk out of 'em makes it easier, then all you gotta do is get him to ping you again, if that is the case.

If you didn't get to talk to him, you can quit without saving and come back and they should ping you again if they were moving in the first place.

From what I've experienced, if you missed a move-out ping today, then the villager will ping you again tomorrow, and again the next day, until you give them an answer about it. What matters most is that they're not in boxes. Any time before they are in boxes, they can be convinced to stay. I might be wrong about that, though?

Just save, quit, and reload. Go find him again. If he pings again it's likely to be a moving ping. (They don't just ping to move once.) c:

He did ping me again once but it was to ask for a replacement for an item in his house. I suppose that means his original ping wasn't to move?

From what I understand, yes, that's what it means. Supposedly if the villager is planning on moving, they won't ping you about something else. They'll either ignore you as you walk past them over and over trying to get them to ping (haha), or they will go ahead and ping you about moving.

Yes, that's right. I figured out while cycling a few villagers out that if they're planning to move and you haven't given them an answer yet, they won't ping about anything else.

Thank you everyone!
I was so worried about potentially losing a favorite villager.
