Helpful information about what to look for
  • what do eggs look like? are they pretty big and not easy to miss? i keep accidentally clicking on people's egg themed signatures thinking they're easter eggs 😭 ahhhhhhh

They usually look like small, solid-color egg icons. However, some trickier ones don't show up as icons at all and might be hidden in a text link, but you'll likely see it if you're in the right place. They're often hidden in posts, but sometimes they're not in threads at all, but still a part of the forum somewhere else. For examples of their locations, you can see the Answers table from past egg hunts, such as last year's (the eggs/links have been removed).

Changing our approach to posts asking to group up
  • Rules Update Announcement

Hey everyone, after reading some of your feedback from earlier today, we're changing our approach to posts asking to group up. You can now publicly ask to join groups to work on solo clues. We understand that many members are more social and already have established groups of friends, so this will make it more fair for newer and/or less social users.

However, we would still like to encourage everyone to contribute and work together (or alone), not just look for someone else to give you the answers. Here's a quick summary of what is and isn't allowed to be posted publicly for the different clue types:

    Solo and Puzzle Clues:
    • Yes: "Does anyone want to group up?"
    • No: "Can someone DM me the answer?"
    • No: "A hint for the egg is..."
    Community Clues:
    • Yes: "A hint for the egg is..."
    • No: "Here is a direct link to the location of the egg..."
    • No: "Here is a direct link to redeem the egg's currency..."
When our egg hunts started, every egg was meant to be found individually, but this was very difficult to enforce, which is why we made changes in 2022. This is where the separation of solo and community clues came from, as well as the format of puzzle submission that requires you to submit an answer that will be manually judged when the hunt ends. This format is harder for both members and staff, but it was a comprise we used to leave some challenging aspects. When these changes were first made, the puzzles were actually even harder than they are now because you had to answer them within 24 hours and were only allowed one attempt. This is our fourth year of this more lax version of the egg hunt, and it seems to be much better overall, but unfortunately there is no absolutely perfect way to do it.
