Alright so I've played the original Animal Crossing, Wild World, and now New Leaf. But never in all my years of playing the game have I been able to catch the tarantula to get the golden net.

Since tarantula season is almost upon us, I'm asking if anyone has any tips to catch the tarantula.

Thanks in advance!!!

Just play all night long when you can. It helps to not be looking for them, they tend to just show up when you least expect it. I personally hate when they appear because the freak me out... and I panic. Also, take your time and be very careful that it doesn't get away. That's the most frustrating thing.

Make sure you don't keep your net on when they start showing up, as they might attack you. Depending on where they spawn you might be at an advantage/disadvantage. Line yourself up with the tarantula without being too close and when you are within the net's range, just take it out and quickly catch it!

But also, the best way to find something is to stop looking for it. I found many tarantulas when I don't have my net which sucks. ahhh

Do you have difficulty catching it or just finding it?

I find them usually very late at night and like the others have noted, it is best to not wander around them with your net out. That is how I lost my first one because it attacked me and I was like "...What.". They are a bit rare in my experience, but if you keep at it long enough, they are sure to appear.

Well, if you start to hear rustling at night, take out your net and wait until you see it. Be slow and careful, 'cause you don't wanna get attacked. They come out at around 8 or 9 and stop coming out at around 2 or 3.

The best night to catch them is Summer Solstice. It's bright till 6am and you'll be able to spot one.
I usually go about my daily routine, helping villager or fishing. Carry a fishing rod and have the net in my pocket. The rest of the tools are placed in my letters. When you see one switch to the net and if it tries to attack you freeze. Wait for it to settle down and than move slow like you do on the island for the golden stag. Keep freezing if it tries to attack you.

If you find one near a cliff or the river move back if it tries to jump. Sometimes it will stop and move towards you. I've caught a few that way. Sometimes they'll walk in front of you while you speak to a villager. If your lucky they wait and let you catch them.

Watch your villagers. If they don't move something is up and near that spot. 3 villagers refused to move from the bridge. Walk pass them and caught one. A villager will mention if a tarantula is near when you speak to them.

Removing some flowers helps. I removed flowers in spots where they spawn and disappear. They kept showing up between Player 3 house and Lolly house. So I removed the shrubs/ flowers and caught them.

Found that they spawn in the same place every year if you don't change that area.

Thanks for the tips! This seems like some really good advice, and hopefully I'lol be able to catch one this year.

yeah just play at night, they show up when i dont expect it, usually in an area that has trees but nothing else around, they always kinda startle me because im just playing the game with my mind elsewhere when the scuttle out...

Someone found it easier to find them when they weren't tired. In the afternoon they changed the clock to the evening.
Found them for both players and the next day they changed the clock back to the right time.

I second the suggestion to move flowers. I had much better luck after I moved a bunch of my flowers down to the beach.

Yeah, I have a lot of flowers too. Moving them to the beach is a good idea, I hadn't thought of that.

same here haha. I get scared easily and when they come after me, i'm like "oh crap, oh crap, oh crap"

Yeah I wasn't looking for one and was just walking around one late night and had my net out

BOOM "dead"!

I swear they run faster in this game than they did in the older series
