Tanning?

I want a tan! Lol, but it never seems to happen for me :( is there some sort of game play length that I should play it for? In order for me to get a tan

Do all umbrellas/parasols help?
I believe that they do.

I think you need to be out and about for at least over an hour, with no brimmed hat or umbrella, during the day when it's sunny.

unrelated question
why do people hate the tans in this game?

Just preference, I guess.

I usually like having a level 2-3 (i think) tan because they're the closest to my actual skin color, but I haven't tanned recently as I've had pink hair for a while now and the way pink hair looks in the game doesn't look nice with a tan. And it's too easy to go too dark orz

it's also possible the person thought they couldn't tan because maybe they were expecting it to appear in realtime, rather than the next day.

That's very possible. I actually forgot about the tanning issue at first, until the next morning when I started the game and saw that my character had gotten a little darker. :)

I'm probably on 3 and getting closer to 4... Make it stop x_x it doesn't go we'll with my character at all...

I had a terrible tan about a week and a half in even though I was wearing a hat. (it was the DJ cap, which is weird since all the other caps prevent tans...) But since I switched to the N cap it started fading. I was also playing less during the daytime and more during the night.

I heard quitting when you're indoors helps speed up the tan fading, but not sure how accurate that is.
