tanning booth

That's kinda what the island is. It's there for you year-round.

They should make different skintones available from the beginning AND make an overpriced sunscreen item because this game needs more money dumps.

Agreed.

I also don't like how the "tan" you get on your skin isn't permanent. Some people want to make their character black, so they went to get tan and finally got black skintone, but then they started to become white slowly.

Black people don't just become white. :(

Exactly. Just remake character generation so people can choose their appearance- eye type, skintone, hair color. It could be like sketching your passport picture or something. Then Rover's questions could be more focused on village type- "Are you headed to a good place to go fishing? " Answering "yes" would generate lots of ponds. "What's the fruit like where you're going?" etc. There could always be a randomizer for people who prefer a less planned approach.

Everyone being pale skinned is pretty common in games developed in asia 8'D i think they're a bit xenophobic.

This is a really good idea. I want one of my alts to be forever hershey's chocolate but the pain of keeping up a tan.

I agree with everyone here, I think there should be some of these additions to the next AC game (If there is another one). The Tanning booth and a whole bunch of other customizing things should be like mini PWPS, infact they should have some in every store. Sorta like what Hirisa said, Rover should ask questions about like what you town should look like. Or maybe they can collect data from how many copies of NL have been sold and have each town different?

A tanning booth sounds cute :3 I'd totally use it to maintain a golden glow all year round (although I'd strong advise against tanning booths in real life!)

Heck, they may as well make the game like The Sims when it comes to starting your character off in the beginning. Then I could make blue people. xD

yeah actually the character customization makes a lot of sense
maybe they should keep the face thing though since that's kind of a mark of animal crossing but otherwise yeah. please

also every country that's got a majority skin color usually has games of that type that doesn't mean that they're all xenophobic

although i do know japan's a bit more prejudiced than other countries but it's a better situation than america imo since there is no majority i suppose but i'd rather not get into this on an otherwise game oriented forum

what i'd like to see in character customization is voice if they ever make it so we actually talk in this freaking game, birthmarks and stuff like freckles, skin color obv, and height would be a very nice addition but i like how simple everything is so yeah

I don't think a tanning booth would be a very good idea. In a way, that'd kind of be promoting skin cancer...
Nintendo should just make options at the beginning to determine your skin color.

I wish that we could have freckles or actually have to maintain our health like eating fruits or maybe even add in a new store that sells foods? And maybe when its fall in Nooks there could be a booth were you get a flu shot? That would be cool, and maybe getting to do sports or actually be the mayor and place stuff how you want it.

No, they shouldn't. Tanning booths are dangerous and stupid.

They need to do away with the current method of determining your character's appearance and just let those of us with darker skin tones to choose them when we start the game. My skin color isn't the result of standing in the sun so "tanning" is a pretty lousy metaphor. I really hope Nintendo comes around on this for the next game.

^ AVATARRRRR!

Not exactly what I had in mind.

Technically all tanning can lead to skin cancer; tanning beds technically aren't any worse than getting a tan in the sun (well, besides being more accessible/easy to get a tan, the point is they all lead to a tan). Any sort of tan means that skin damage has occurred.

I do think that it would be better if you could just select your skin color at the beginning of the game. The only workaround design-wise they'd have to do is think of a way to implement it with the "Rover asks you roundabout questions to get your avatar" thing that series is kind of known for.

Or if they're to keep the current method of determining your characters appearance, perhaps ask where your character comes from and then give you the option of North (European), South (African), East (Asian), West (Not sure what to put here) and let that determine. Could be interesting.

I was thinking about that but it's a serious flaw because there are still going to be foreigners in countries even though they might still consider themselves of that country and asking nationality will still be flawed because of. you know. people like me

there's a chinese/african american girl i know and i'm pretty sure that that won't work out very well for her lmao

um no

tanning booths are really stupid and i don't think having a virtual tanning booth in ACNL would be any better
i think standing in the sun to get a darker skin tone is fun and i don't want AC to change that.
