tanning booth

um no

tanning booths are really stupid and i don't think having a virtual tanning booth in ACNL would be any better
i think standing in the sun to get a darker skin tone is fun and i don't want AC to change that.

These are my thoughts wrapped in a post. A lot of young children play this game, and whilst it's okay to do make your own decisions on your looks, I would not try and encourage them to think tanning is okay and safe.

I was thinking about that but it's a serious flaw because there are still going to be foreigners in countries even though they might still consider themselves of that country and asking nationality will still be flawed because of. you know. people like me

there's a chinese/african american girl i know and i'm pretty sure that that won't work out very well for her lmao

I see what you're saying. I was thinking more along the lines of skin complexion rather than nationality, really. I was just trying to give an idea of which compass direction would determine that complexion, even if you're not of that background.

I wish that we could have freckles or actually have to maintain our health like eating fruits or maybe even add in a new store that sells foods? And maybe when its fall in Nooks there could be a booth were you get a flu shot? That would be cool, and maybe getting to do sports or actually be the mayor and place stuff how you want it.
This isn't the Sims.

I think at the very least picking your skin color would be a nice idea. There's a lot of problems with equal representation in the media, and it's kind of sad that people with darker skin colors can't have a character that looks more like them. I'm lucky in that even though I'm Mexican-American, I basically just look like some random generic white person. It's easy for me to relate to light-skinned avatars because I'm already light-skinned, but what about other people? In a game where you can gave bright blue hair I feel like having different permanent skin tones would be nice.

I disagree it should stay the same, darker people might want to play a darker character instead of being assumed white and without having to stand on the island for a few hours everyday. They need to find a way to mix skin into the questions rover asks you at the beginning, but it needs to obviously pertain to skin in some way so people dont end up with a skin color they dont want.

like just asking for location or something to depend skin color isnt clear enough and people will end up with a skin color they dont want if they didnt know the question pertained to skin color

but like just blatantly asking skin color would be weird?? so its sort of a hard thing to write in without making everyone angry

unless they make rover go blind in a horrible accident and then he can ask what you look like lmfao

OMG BRB DYINGG.

Maybe it could be like your character is with Rover, but your phone rings and it's all like 'hello der this is the [INSERT TOWN NAME] registration team. In order to register you as a resident, we need to ask you the following', and then they'd ask skin colour and other questions like eye colour, hair colour, DOB, etc. Or maybe it could be an option in Shampoodles?

I was actualy just thinking about a completely diferent thing that might fit in well in the skin color issue for those who dont want a tannig booth :0

Ive always wanted the possibility of PWPs exclusive to the beach (Folding chairs, towels with parasols, all that stuff) and Ive also always felt a little bit bad for Kapp?n, always having to sit on his boat by the docks, burning the bald top of his head, waiting for a villager that will probably not need his services until its beetle time.

So how about making it so that we can build a little shack by the docks for Kapp?n to stay in and do some bussiness?

There (Amongst other services) he would have 3 kinds of creams for sale, some sort of sunscreen for those who do NOT want tans at all, some sort of "perma-tan cream" that lets you keep the tan you get for as long as you want and some sort of "exfoliating cream" that can be used 3 times and will reduce a level of perma-tanning the next day for each aplication? (So if you over-do the tan you can lighten it up to the skin color you wanted, or just eliminate it overall if you just wanted a tan look for the summer or just any other reason you may have!).

And whenever you had the perma tan in place, you could still tan a bit more naturaly (Considering you are not already at the darkest option) but it would still naturaly go back to the tone of your perma tan?

THis probably makes absolutely no sense, but I think it would be a good alternative to the tanning booth?

Of course, the chance of getting your skin color from the begining would be 10 times better, but this could also be a nice gimmick

That's kinda what the island is. It's there for you year-round.

Yeah, but it takes FOREVER to get dark and maintain it! I'm kinda surprised that in this day and age there isn't just an option to choose your own default complexion. Rather than an interview with annoying trial-and-error results, why not just have a character creation screen?

It's mostly just tradition at this point, I think. Design-wise, it's unique (well, I guess people could think it's annoying, but the point is that it's purposefully not a standard character select screen), and it also doesn't break the immersion of the sequence where you meet Rover.

But yeah. I'd really love to see it be easier to get varied skin tones. Diversity is much needed in the video gaming world.

Okay, so people are dissing on a few suggestions and those doing so can't even make a better idea. So I've got it. Forget the tanning booth because it will only tell people to go get cancer, so just give Shampoodle a spray tan booth instead. Problem solved.

That would be kinda cool. It would be funny if depending on what you are wearing your tan is different, like long sleeves would leave your arms not tanned and short sleeves would let them get tanned.

... I think maybe a tanning booth isn't implemented because it Nintendo is protecting their behinds from suggesting to children that tanning booths are a "ok" and "good thing" to do to get a tan.
It would be hard for them to have the booth and have like a skin cancer warning sign in the game. >.>

...
A SPRAY tan booth on the other hand... Where it actually animates a mist coming out and all that maybe something possible without too much drama being directed at Nintendo.

EDIT
I see someone already posted something about that -didn't look through thread before posting-
Glad other people have the same kinda business sense as I do that Nintendo would be in a lot of trouble doing somethin like that. XP

I know, right? =P

But it would be really awesome to see your character walk into this box and the door slam shut. The it starts shaking like crazy with spray stuff shooting out the sides...
Then when the door opens your character is all dizzy. XP

...
But imagine if it is a slider selector, we would get all those comments and photos about people messing up with the wrong color like they do hair. >.<

i want there to be sunblock that lasts for a day if the tans ever become permanent (and they should be permanent) but i kinda prefer being tanned by the sun, idk why tho.
also, this thread reminded me of this
