I went to someones town to try it and it was fun to treat it like a competition, but I think it was a lot harder than the fishing tourney since there's no way to force bugs to spawn. So it took a lot longer getting points for the items, even playing in a group.

I think the most points we got in one round was like 17 (30 bugs caught if I rmbr correctly), and the lowest we got was 6

Yes, all the points are tallied together so you get more points when playing with other people on one island (doesnt matter if its yours or not). You get more points playing with other people for the fishing tourney as well.

Happy to hear this carried over to the Bug Off as well. Playing with friends made it WAY easier to get all the fishing tourney goods. Didn't feel like a chore either.

I do that too all the time. I look at stuff and I don’t register all that I’m seeing. I’ve gotten in the habit of triple checking things for that very reason. It’s why I take so long to do stuff sometimes.

This is according to what I saw: The first round is free. You have to pay 500 bells for every round after that. He does buy the bugs you catch so it’s not a big deal. Each round is 3 minutes. You get points depending on how many bugs you catch and redeem the points for prizes. It also appears to help if you have a lot of flowers set up near the plaza
