Perhaps one of the most iconic games in video game history, Super Mario 64 paved the path for 3D games and has since sold millions of copies and won awards. Now it's getting a fan remake in HD!

What system will this be on? :o

I can't find information on it but as it's a fan game I presume PC - if it is I can assume Windows would be a guarantee given they're using Windows (evident in screenshots) but maybe Mac as well. It's being produced in Blender

I'm not playing a Nintendo game on anything other than a Nintendo console.

I doubt they'd be able to get it onto a Nintendo console, I'm sure it's free (isn't it illegal to make a profit game with Nintendo IPs?) but either way it looks neat. I hope it doesn't end like pretty much every other fan project - in disaster.

From what it shows near the end, this remake has been around for a while now. I'm sort of sad that after so much time the Mario model still looks so offputtingly shiny.

This. Assuming it ends up being a good quality remake, they should at least let it be released on the Wii U.

Nintendo have given the all clear for people to do stuff like this with their IP's. In fact, they've turned table and are outright encouraging it and offering incentives. Dunno whether it'll be free but I assume so since I can imagine Nintendo still taking issue with making money from their IP's.

I know they gave the clear and I'm following Mother 4 but I don't think Nintendo specified if it was okay to charge for it.

Peach's face looks all manners of ****ed.

I've seen the gameplay demo before and I still think the Mario model looks godawful.

Anyway I can't wait for this to get shafted by Nintendo's lawyers as well.

Lol You can guarantee it'll be a PC game. You can use Nintendo IPs now up to a point but there's not a chance this will show up anywhere but online. Nintendo would redo their own game and if it popped up on any console Nintendo would probably swoop in with a nasty lawsuit. Obscure cameos are a different story.... *points to Guacamelee*

It looks in development, yet why did they compare it to the original and not the DS remake?

Well we could counter argue that if they did compare it the DS version, 'why did they compare it to the DS remake and not the original?'.

Why would it? It's fine to use Nintendo IPs.

On Dwango's services (Nico Nico Douga). And only for fanart, Let's Plays and musical covers.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe this game doesn't meet any of those requirements.

Until NOA says anything about it, or fan games are also cleared by NOJ... then looking forward to this getting killed is about all you can do.

because the ds remake was purely about the game play, and a lot less about the actual visuals of the game *kinda the reason why it was remade on the DS lol*

and probably because the original SM64 runs a lot smoother in comparison to the DS remake

plus the ds remake looks absolutely vile

the DS game was too scary especially the cave level with all the wire frames and you turn metal and wario is probably there too. I remember staying up late playing this under the covers 2spook4me

Mario's model looks too shiny and too much like his brawl model. The movement animations don't really suit the model either but I'll let the developer off it's still in development after all.

Damn. I got really excited, and then really let down. SM64 is one of my favorite games ever. Boooo :(

It's still in development, I wouldn't worry. You'd be surprised how horrific Nintendo games look in development.
