Stuff you remember from your childhood

I remember taking home the school's pet hamster Roman permanently because the teacher saw the love I had for him and knew he was up there in age and needed to retire anyway. I remember him being the sweetest hamster imaginable, a teddy bear hamster unlike any I've seen in coloration, and I remember teaching him peek-a-boo via a tiny box that had a lightweight hinged lid. I remember the only time he bit me was when we were in the dark and I startled him, and I remember it not hurting as much as my sister's miniature hamsters (literal monsters) did when they bit, which was often.

I know now that I could've given that little guy such a better experience in life with how much knowledge there is to share about hamster care these days, but, I like to think regardless that he lived a good life with me.

My pets are probably the most positive things I remember from being a kid, I had so so many. A more interesting story might've been us keeping a baby horse in our backyard for a year but, I digress, and will leave this here.

ALSO OUT OF THE BOX, NO ONE SEEMS TO REMEMBER OUT OF THE BOX, BUT I DO. GREAT SHOW. MISS IT.

when i was little, i was left unattended a lot. my father wasn’t really in the picture, my grandmother worked and my mom slept a lot and so, i had ample opportunities to get into mischief. the main things i can remember is pouring baby powder and apple juice all over the apartment, throwing strawberries and whipped cream off of the balcony and at the curtains.

i also had a habit of knocking on my neighbours door and then shutting mine to try and act like it wasn’t me. they knew damn well it was me and now that i’m older, i am well aware that they could peek through the door and see me, but one time they left a muffin outside my door so that was nice lmao

Back when Barbie's The Princess and The Pauper was released I desperately wanted the two dolls that would sing the "I'm just like you, you're just like me" song from the movie together if you pressed the buttons on their back at the same time. My dad and I had gone somewhere and when we got home and came inside my mom had bought me both of them and left them sitting on our kitchen counter before she went to work. I still have them somewhere!

I was staying at my friend's house and we were sitting in her living room watching Shark Week. From their living room you could see the door that led to their carport. I happened to glance in that direction and I saw the shadow of somebody standing on the other side of the door. I looked away really quick and looked back and it was gone. If someone was really out there it was way too quick for them to have moved but I vividly saw it. I still wonder if someone was really there or not; she lived out in the middle of nowhere so no one had any business being outside of her house in the middle of the night.

I remember a lot from my childhood. I feel like I remember everything. But, for the sake of time, here's a few:

-Playing Sega Genesis in my brother's room, because it was his console.
-Eating hotdogs and velveeta shells while watching Full House (for some reason, lol).
-Chewing that zebra stripe fruit gum on a car ride to a llama farm.
-Visiting a local fish hatchery and feeding the fish those brown pellets.
-Going to a local zoo/museum every summer.
-Going to the Jersey shore every summer and staying in a camper that belonged to my mom's friend.
-Getting a dandelion yellow GBC with Pokemon Red for my 10th birthday.
-Getting shoved out of our treefort by my brother's friend and having the wind knocked out of me.
-Watching shows like X-Men, Spider-Man and Batman animated series.
-Playing with X-Men action figures.

I remember in nursery everyone sat in a circle and we would take turns to say our favourite colour. I said mine was blue and the guy behind me made fun of me because blue is a boy colour lol. Not sure why that stuck with me for so long

jumping from the windowsill onto my 6 year old brothers chest who was laying on the sofa and making him end up in hospital

i mean

playing monopoly with my grandma

I remember back when I was in elementary school, probably somewhere between 6-8 years old, I found a caterpillar during recess and fell in love with it. I planned to bring it home with me and keep it and watch it turn into a butterfly, but they wouldn't let me bring it on the bus. I got so upset and cried for ages because of that.

When I was a kid my dad used to put peanut butter on toast and dip it in chocolate milk. One time I had a piece of buttered bread and a glass of water and though it would be a good idea to do the same with those.

It was not.

before we did some remodelling outside, there was this really OLD set of stairs to get into the garden (i barely remember how it looked, my memory is awful in that regards) and the railing wasn‘t attached to the other one. one day, i got my sleeve stuck on there and fell down said flight of stairs because of this.

around the same time, during easter, i went to my grandparents and they had this stupid habit of hiding the stuff from the easter hunt ALL over the place (they own a farm, which is HUGE), so my dad and i embarked on a journey. we found it up on a hill, which i fell down because i just wanted to get down and not go the safe way. needless to say, that was an experience.

and even before that my other grandparents had my try out their whirlpool. it‘s built in and tiled, so lots of potential ways to hurt yourself on accident. little 4 yo me got scared of the bubbles and tried to bolt, slipped and hit my chin on said tiled corner. still have a nasty scar from it.

summary: hurting myself on accident seemed to be the standard and yet i never broke anything.

i remember dipping like a couple strands of hair in paint, to this day i still don't understand why i had the urge to do it but i did, and my dad cut off all my hair that day because of it

I suprisingly remember a ton about when I was a little kid, like being super distressed because I wanted to sleep in between my parents on their bed and not in the crib alone lol
One of my most vivid memories though is when I was around 4 or 5 I stole my older friends nail polish and for some reason thought I could use it as make up too. I remember putting sparkly nail polish on my eyelids and it burning so bad, and I instantly knew I messed up. I remember running into the bathroom crying and scrubbing my eyes under tap of the bathtub and then crying more because the water was cold lmao
After that I pretended like nothing happened and slipped the nail polish back into my friends bedroom and she never even realized I took it

I remember several things.
-We had this Winnie the Pooh GameCube game where you had to save Pooh's friends' birthdays. I could never beat it because on the last level my sister always took the controller out of my hands and beat it for me.
-One day Disney channel was on and a song came on while i was putting a CD-ROM game into my old computer. Me and my sisters were jamming to the song, and I kinda uh jammed too hard and broke the CD.
-At one of my preschools we had a toy accordion and ate breakfast, we also had those little cars you could 'drive'
-Another preschool thing: I hated all the kids at the first preschool i went to. There was this one kid who always chased me at recess while I was trying to be alone and play with those cars you could ride. Thank goodness I moved away a few months later and went to a different preschool.
-Once again, another preschool thing (kinda): I had this little crown (i think it was from a toy from a happy meal). I was in my sister's room having a sleepover that night. I think i tried sticking it over my head and one of my siblings told me to not do that because I would choke and die and miss the first day of preschool.
-One day when I was really young I went over to my grandma's house to go swimming, even though her pool was kinda dried up. There wasn't as much water in the pool, so that was the first time I was allowed beyond the steps of the pool, i'm pretty sure.

Also, I remember roasting kids in my preschool class in my mind. I was a pretty strange kid.

I remember going on holiday when I was a baby, we had found a shaded cave since we had been out in the sun for too long and my dad was still swimming in the ocean. So my mum was sat with me, and I had filled my dad’s shoes with sand, and I remember finding myself hilarious, I couldn’t stop laughing.
According to my mum, she said I was only about 18 months old, I have no idea how I remember that but I just do. I firmly believe it’s my first memory c:

I remember at maybe 3 or 4 years old, eating too much cheese and vomiting while watching Lion King. I also remember at around age 6, throwing myself into the fridge door to make a Tarzan joke ("watch out for that tree!") and breaking my nose.

Catching inchworms in paper cups with my brother. That was at my old house, so I was maybe 3.

Riding my Big Wheel in the driveway and pulling the brake to spin around.

Pinecone wars.

Picking wild blueberries in the morning and bringing them back to my dad so he could make pancakes.

Hunting for checkerberries in the woods with my friend.

One thing I remember is my neighborhood friend drawing male anatomy on our driveway with sidewalk chalk and blaming me. That was early on in elementary school. We had more in common way later in our group of 10 as subgroups formed over the years.

I just vaguely remember in 8th grade, I was casually sitting in science class. My friend brought out smarties and we thought it was a smart idea to crush it up and snort it in our nose with a straw. I did that which it didn't bother me for some reason. Then my science teacher rose up from her seat and was like, what are you doing? I just stood still while she told us to "clean it up" Honestly, I think she doesn't care anymore. I eventually sneezed and all the smartie powder went everywhere. I cleaned it and luckily my parents didn't get notified so. :)

a lot of my childhood was inspired through mcdonalds/burger king toys. i used to spend weekends with my great grandmother, and never brought my own dolls or toys from home . rather, played with a small collection of fastfood kiddie meal toys, loose goodwill toys, and some of the random toy-ish things she had around the apartment. i would make stories using weird assorments of characters. i still have all of this toys on my shelf that i recovered when my nan passed away... i was able to track down some of them so u could see how that was for me LOL

i remember i drew something for my nana and she said to me, "wow this is really good. you should be an artist" and like idk that meant a lot to a 5 year old. so i went on to become an artist or something LOL
