Strange behaviors

I bought AC:NL shortly after it came out, along with a brand new 3DS XL (specifically for AC:NL, also my shoulder buttons had given out on my old DSL).
So, I've been playing for 3-4 weeks. In that time, I have played every day, and Redd finally showed up yesterday, for the first time. Not to weird, he's a pseudo-random character, though it was frustrating because he's the only source of art.
I work at night IRL, so I tend to play quite a bit at night, especially on my days off. I have never once seen Phyllis. At any time of day or night.
I was never able to wake up Gulliver when he came to my town, despite more than a dozen attempts.
Shrunk appeared to me to build Club LOL four days ago. Three days ago I turned in the clipboard with six signatures, as required. I have not seen hide nor hair of Shrunk or Club LOL in the time since.
There are other subtly weird things in my town.

I'm starting to think I have a glitched copy. Anybody else seeing anything like this?

Club LOL took awhile to build, and Gulliver doesn't always wake up for me. It sounds pretty normal to me. :/

club lol takes 5 days I believe, but everything sounds normal to me

The club takes about a week to complete, and to wake gulliver, you need the megaphone.

I've had Gulliver 3 times and never needed the megaphone to wake him. It did take at least 7 times of talking to him, each time, before he'd get up though.

I always see Phyllis at night so I'm not sure about that..

I don't think your game is glitched. It seems your luck with Redd is just not good. You need to talk to Gulliver several times before he will wake up. As for Phyllis, maybe you're not going at the correct time?

I've gotten Gulliver twice and both times he woke up the first time I talked to him. ;

You need to talk to Gulliver more than once to wake him up. Or you can instantly wake him up using the Megaphone.
Phyllis always works the Night Shift.
And for Redd... Well, you normally get him on non-event Saturdays or Katrina.

I don't even know if I've answered these properly...

I haven't had Redd a single time in the entire time I've been playing. I got the game on June 14th. So I'd consider you lucky.

I've had Gulliver 3 times now and the first 2 times he woke up after only 2 or 3 attempts but the 3rd time I had to try 23 times. (I counted because I couldnt believe how hard he was and I planned to go to 50 and then give up.)

I don't think this is correct, I woke him twice without one.

Anywho, I rarely get Redd either. Only twice. All my other artwork I got from my smug villager selling/giving to me. It took me about 40-ish tries to wake Gulliver up the first time I got him, but he woke up on the first try the second time. I'm not too sure about Phyllis, she shows up regularly for me. And Club LOL takes a looong time to build, I thought Shrunk had disappeared. xD
