Hi there! Posting this here since I would like some opinions. I want to recreate
from Steins;gate in a themed room, but kind of lost as to what to improve with the limited space in a room.
Maybe I should extend it to the back room as well to have more space for details?
If you haven't seen the show, that's okay too! I would like an overall opinion on improving the room aesthetic as well. thanks for looking! c:
Ok here we go:
Right now I think it looks like a bright, clean and modern room. The lab in the games and the anime (but mostly the VN one) is clean but dark, crammed and messy.
I think one way to improve this is using less light, the future gadget lab is always quite dark during the day. Having only a small lamp or non on could help with making the room more...well...messy/crammed/dark. Thats the important thing to get right. Atmosphere can do more for a room than just finding the perfect items.
Maybe try to get furniture with dark wood colors (some can be customized to get even darker like the classic series) and use that for the storage spaces they have.
Block them off with a folding screen/curtain.
Try to find some more "otaku"/"geek"-themed items.
I like the scattered papers but maybe they should be more in the storage-section of the room since the main lab is quite clean.
It might be an RV item but I remember seeing a stack of magazines...you could customize that to look like mayuri?s manga or place some "magazines" next to daru?s desk.
In general I would try to find items that look like they are crammed with things...I think there is an item that looks like books (not a stack but how you would place them on a shelf), that might look nice on a desk.
Get one or two of the sewing-related RV items (maybe the one with the scissors and the fabric) to put them on the main table for Mayuri?s cosplay.
In general I would try to make the storage section on the upper right larger and main room more cammed...try to fill the space next to the wall with items and if the main part of the room feels too empty, make the dark gadget-storage larger.
Everything feels a bit too clean and neat. You can try to fill the space by putting some more dark/tall furniture around the walls and the screens/dividers and then place the small objects in front of that. With two rows of items with different heights it will immediately look more crammed.
Also maybe try to get one or two items from the cardboard series. I know its rare but that, together with other tall and dark furniture, could be a good replacement for the ...walls of "stuff". Not to mention that you can find pretty much every item in the retail section if you open a tread or check the largest shops^^
That?s all that comes to mind right now...maybe some of it is useful. Try to browse MoriDB and make a catalogue list for yourself with all items that could potentially fit into that room...then try to get most of them and experiment. I?m sure it will turn out great!
You make some very good points. I agree that a dark and ominous theme would work a lot better in identifying the room with the show. I've got my work cut out for me there but that's quite alright. I was a bit hesitant to crowd the room for the sake of accessibility, but it does seem lacking in a few areas. Especially Mayuri's sewing, I had completely forgotten she kept that at the lab.
Will definitely look into the MoriDB list, seems like a very useful resource. c:
Thanks a ton for pointing me in the right direction, Tomoe!
