So I recently had to start completely over. And I'm actually really enjoying it. I feel like I kinda "ruined" the game for myself the first few years.

I time traveled. Now I play in real time.
I bought everything I wanted on here. Now I'm getting it all myself.
I bought turnips and sold in other towns and made an insane amount of money. Over 100 million.

Idk it all kinda I guess ruined the game for me kinda.
Now I'm excited for each new day. It's a completely new experience.

Does this even make sense? Lol. Anyone else have a similar experience?

Yeah, that's what I did. I feel that I put my Cafe and Campsite in an ugly spot and I bought the reset centre which I sincerely regretted. I also let my favourite and only jock villager leave, and let another cranky villager fill up the spot for him. I felt like I messed up, and when I soon release my dream address, it would be a disgusting town. I had also saw a perfect fruit in my town, growing on one of my trees, and I didn't even know that you can grow fruit trees. So what I did to that perfect pear was just sell it. Once all of my dreamies moved in, I only found out about Plot Resetting, and I figured out that my dreamies' houses were scattered everywhere which made my town look horrible. I wasn't positive about my town. Even though I had just unlocked the emporium, I chose to time travel back to when I started. It was great, and I made my jock villager stay, did plot resetting, found that perfect pear and made a perfect tree, went to the island and got millions for my second day of mayorhood, put my Cafe and Campsite in nice places, and remembered not to waste that 298,000 bells on Resetti. :lemon:

I know what you mean definitely. In the first year of playing the game I used to time travel compulsively, and I never produced any hybrids of my own. Most of my flowers would die too. You could say that I never really cared or tried to develop my town so it always looked awful and barren. Now I try to maintain my town and grow my own hybrids (with a little help.) I don't time travel at all anymore, and i've realised that I enjoy the game so much more this way and time traveling did kinda ruin it for me. It burned me out on the game so quickly. I try to work for my items too, if they're reorderable.

I think I'm going in the opposite direction you are... :(

I made this bell tree forums account when i opened my town, but I didn't come online at all after that, and played by the book. It was so fresh and appealing and every day was a new surprise, not something to skip to get more flowers/change villagers/open pwps. I got back into the forum only very very recently, and I've been lowkey obsessed with it- constantly refreshing pages and checking retail and the train station and buying things i have been wanting from other people...

I kind of regret it, because now when I go on the game, and I'm not visiting and nobody's visiting me, or i'm not getting ready to fill an order or to pick one up, I feel bored- not at all like my acnl experience has been the past month... I think i'm definitely going to try to dial back on depending on the forums to make my acnl town better- because to be honest, i was a lot happier when i did things slowly and sincerely.

Omg that was a big rant, but my point is: i'm truly really really happy for you for starting fresh, and I hope you have an amazing time!! :)

Yes, that does even make a lot of sense. It's waaaaay more interesting and fun when I you learn the things day by day and maybe it's better to wait for something and be patient. You'll have several years fun with that method and your motivation won't leave as soon as when you time travel. I have a lot of friends who started over after timetravelling or buying things here or just buying villagers. I never did that and in the end I have a 4,5 year old town I'm happy with and my friends still start over and over.
I just learned to accept how my river looks, where my house and PWPs placement is and it's just a lot of fun to talk to my lovely villagers day by day!

There's always been a beautiful appeal to starting fresh. As much as I love to put a lot of work into my towns, more than once I've inevitably grown unhappy enough with something (or lost enough of my favorite villagers on accident) to decide to begin anew. In my case, though, I always have so many ideas for what I want to do with new towns that having a lack of bells and tools at the start is frustrating, lol. I'm also a bit addicted to map resetting..

I know exactly how you feel. I recently re-started from scratch after a villager who wasn't moving out effectively ruined my set-up. I'd actually forgotten about little mechanics of the game because I no longer had any need to do certain things. I'm not kidding when I say I'd forgotten furniture can be shaken from trees.

This is what my current map looks like:

It's not perfect, but it has my favorite river shape, the dock and ramp line up perfectly, and I got my favorite fruit. Apples! <3

I took a long break and just started playing this week, and even though it's still kinda grindy for me I still have all these great ideas for my town still, plus I really like the new RV feature! It's just another reason to enjoy the game :)
