Decided to start a new town recently, didn't like my old town (though I do miss Lucky he was awesome). I also decided to get into landscaping...and MAN, I had no idea it would be as difficult as it turned out to be. T^T

It seriously took me 5 hours to lay down paths so I can get villagers to move in where I want them to, and now I'm just waiting for the gardening shop to appear so I can start planting bushes near my down square.

Since I'm still new to all this, do you guys have any extra tips/advice about landscaping? I'm trying to get a 'HalloweenTown' theme for my town, so I'm trying really hard to make it a reality.

(I would post pictures but I don't have anything that can do that for me)

Late Night Thoughts on Landscaping and Halloween

NOW! Is the perfect time to start planning for Halloween!
Any town with a dream season it's so helpful to start months in advance.
Fall is soooo pretty in ACNL - right around Halloween and right after

Colors: start breeding orange and black flowers - roses, lilies, cosmos, tulips then think about if you want accents of white, yellow or red as non hybrid colors for accent and texture.

Personally for fall theme towns like my one town I love sweet olive bushes. Find some on the boards as soon as you can because most people don't use them as much as the other bushes. They have lovely orange flowers that appear only in fall.

Bushes appear in Leifs shop inside T.I.Y. - keep that in mind

Golden Axes are useful - they never break

There's more to say but I'll leave it at that for now. Let me know if you want to know more or if you want to see my fall town - it's not Halloween but it's very fall colors :)

Landscaping is so much work.
*Muffy,Lucky,Kiki,Cole could be good villagers
*Line the homes in a street maybe? To be reminiscent of going door to door for candy
*Olive starts
*You could do a small cedar spooky "Forest area"
*You could really use any pwp and theme to make it work. I'd personally go super modern or super foresty. But fairytale would work too!
*I'd 100% use the bonfire, log bench
*I'm going to suggest black orange and purple flowers. To me orange roses and purple pansies look good and purple tulips and orange tulips look nice. Black roses too.
*Obviously there has to be a witch/wizard in town :)
Tips:
*work on it little at a time or you'll go crazy
*You will end up redoing areas that took forever to do. Don't feel too discouraged. It happens.
*Save up what materials you can. Get a golden shovel as soon as you can buying shrubs.

Good luck!

Have fun with it!!! Personally I like coming up with stories about and personalities for each one of my residents and making their homes/areas around that. (i.e. I think a resident who sells cursed/poisoned items living in a swamp bc of access to materials would be cool!) Same with the town; coming up with a story is always a lot of fun c: (is it a town full of monsters, a place for people to trick-or-treat, everyone is cursed, etc)

Whenever I plan out a town I always strip the trees completely so I have a much more open palate to work with
I personally think zen-themed buildings would give the town an older vibe
Holly starts are also good for areas you want to make darker
You could use the stone tablet PWP as a center piece for a graveyard maybe? I think it looks cool!
You will most likely change your path and switch between them a lot so make sure to save any design you use at the able sisters in case you want to use them again.
Cedar trees sound like the best option if you want it to be darker and more spooky
Candy! You can have it scattered, placed in wrapping paper in front of doors, or really however else you can think of it!
For dream address visitors it would be cool to have some costumes to change into
Black and red flowers would look nice and you can always use weeds as decoration too!!! They actually look pretty nice especially if you want an area to look overgrown or abandoned.
Even if you don't have areas plotted out yet for flowers you can always start breeding them on the beaches now and have one resident hold onto them all! (I always have one resident in charge of holding all the flowers/bushes/trees I plan on using)
A quick way to get non-hybrid flowers is to go to the island, play a tour that doesn't require holding items, and taking as many flowers as you can!

Don't worry too much about what other towns look like compared to yours. Everyone has a different style and no two towns will look the same! That being said it's fine to get inspiration from what other people have done, but don't think you need to be exactly like them to have a great town. c:
