This morning, Shigeru Miyamoto posted on the official Wii U facebook page the following:

"I made a big decision last week.
We have been developing Star Fox Zero for Wii U with the aim of releasing it this year. Although we felt that the development had been progressing well, we now believe that we will need a little more time to work on areas such as the unprecedented discovery that we want players to experience in the game by using two screens, and further polishing the level designs and perfecting the tone of the cut scenes.
While we have already reached the stage where it would be technically possible to release the title in time for the year-end holiday season, we want to polish the game a bit more so that players will be able to more smoothly grasp the new style of play that we are proposing.
To the people looking forward to the launch of the game this holiday season, I am very sorry.
Star Fox Zero is going to bring new game play and experiences that take it far beyond the framework established by Star Fox 64. All the members of the development team are doing our best so that the final product will not betray your expectations. And the game will not be delayed for a very long time – we're aiming to launch the game in Q1 2016. Please stay tuned for further announcements."

Honestly I feel really disappointed about this news, since that this game was pretty much Nintendo's big game for the holidays after filling in for Zelda Wii U. But its for the best, I guess.

Here's hoping for a release date sometime in January.

Well, that was unfortunate. I was really looking forward for this potentially unique action-packed title this holidays, and then I'm left with very few games that might capture my interest. Yoshi's Woolly World looks tons of fun, The Legend of Zelda: Tri-Force Heroes might fill my multiplayer Zelda craving and Xenoblade Chronicles X probably worth playing, but these aren't exactly ground-breaking. Then again, I've got way too many games to play anyway, so I couldn't be fussed either.

Whoa this totally doesn't happen to every major Nintendo game. Bummer.

I got to play the E3 version and it was underwhelming to say the least. Controls were not the best, gameplay was a rehash of Star Fox 64 and the graphics were ugly, especially the textures. An example ? When you are in Corneria, the water you fly over doesn't move. Water has no motion at all: it's static. So this is good news for the game, not so much for Nintendo's holiday lineup.

You guys everytime want good ****ing graphics. Who cares?

edit: How is this good news? A Star Fox game is coming out since 2011. That's over 4 years ago, Either you aren't a nintendo fan or you just play "animal crossing".

Well I care. When I spend ?300 on a modern console I expect the games released on it to look like they were intended for a modern console, not muddy textures and blocky models like the game was intended for release on the PS2 a decade ago.

Gameplay matters more, but I still expect games to look good.

It's 'good news' because they're polishing a game which a lot of people are currently saying is underwhelming. Maybe these things that people are commonly mentioning could be ironed out with the extended release date.
Remember that Miyamoto quote about releasing a half finished game? A delayed game eventually being good, a rushed game being forever bad?

Either you aren't a nintendo fan or you just play "animal crossing".

I don't see how saying the delay could be a good thing means you're not a Nintendo fan. I also don't see how thinking it's a good thing means you're not a Nintendo fan, which also implies you have to be a Star Fox fan to be a Nintendo fan.

Am I now not a Nintendo fan because I think the delay could be a good thing for the game and don't really like Star Fox that much?

There's no need to act so hostile emisenpai12, you can get your point across more respectfully than that.

I agree with everyone saying this is ultimately a good thing. While it's kind of amusing to see Nintendo yet again delay a big holiday game like they do nearly every year... this time it really is necessary. SFZ has plenty of potential, but it also clearly needs a lot more work.

Tbh when this news dropped I was confused, I could've sworn I had already heard about a Starfox Zero delay a week or some before...

Anyway, yeah, if they need to make necessary improvements then by all means they should take the time they need to do so.

I think this is dumb. I understand why Nintendo decided to do this, but what I don't get is, they announced the game would release on November 20th on August 24th, then not even a month later they announce the game is being delayed until 2016... And the fact he says he made the decision "last week", meaning the week of September 7th - September 13th, that's basically two and a half weeks after the games release date was announced... It's just so dumb because there's no way they hadn't brought up the concept of delaying the game when the release date was announced.
Delaying a game isn't just a spur of the moment decision you randomly decide to do one day, it's something that you obviously spend a lot of time considering, and I'm sure they would've been thinking about the decision to delay this game for at least a month, if not longer, which probably means at the time they announced the release date they were considering delaying the game... So what I don't understand is why would you give a game an official release date when at the same time you were most likely going to delay it (or were considering it, at least). It just doesn't make any sense to me and I think it's dumb.

That said tho, I've never had any interest in the Star Fox series, but if this delay improves the game a lot, I may actually buy it once I see how it looks/plays.

As long as it's for improvements, fine by me. Too many games get away with being released broken. It's nice that Nintendo still cares about quality, even if some people aren't going to like this decision.

lol maybe they'll actually make a good game now because all the convention footage looked awful
