So I'm looking to sell my Wii to buy a Wii u. And I can only afford one of the two when I sell it. Which one is better? I feel like Mario kart 8 would get boring after a while. Help.
I would say Splatoon because I own both and i find myself playing Splatoon way more often. I've owned every Mario Kart game and it does low-key get boring after a while. Imo I've had more fun playing Splatoon plus the dlc is free
I never have and probably never will see the appeal of competitive shooter games, so Mario Kart 8 takes my vote. I realize the focus of Splatoon is more on covering the arena with ink instead of racking up kills, but it still doesn't really do anything to appeal to me.
That said, Splatoon probably has more to it to keep you invested for longer. And admittedly, Mario Kart 8's online is kind of sloppily-handled considering you can't change your kart configuration without leaving the lobby you're in and coming back.
Splatoon is probably the better game overall and will probably win, but I just can't get into it myself.
I thought Splatoon was way more fun to play on my own and kept my interest longer. The lack of communication online often makes other people feel like glorified NPC's though.
Mario Kart lost my interest quickly after I had done the single player stuff (which doesn't take long) but I think it's a better game to play with friends since its local multiplayer isn't a pile of ****.
If you have internet that always disconnects then you should get MK8. Splatoon is mostly online and from what I can tell the story mode is reaIly short
Splatoon is literally a waste of time, with Mario Kart, it's the gift that keeps on giving, even without wi-fi!
With Splatoon, you need wi-fi to play the game and the single player mode has NO replay value whatsoever.
I personally hate shooters, but I really love Splatoon, which is super weird. I also actually LIKE that there's no voice chat. I don't need to listen to children yelling, children yelling at adults, adults yelling at children, etc. And there's the potential language barrier.
In any case!
Splatoon is definitely multiplayer focused, and does get consistent content updates for free, and actively hosts events to keep people active. The single player campaign is rather short, but fun, and has one of the most fun boss battles I've encountered recently.
Mario Kart 8 is fun with or without multiplayer, but I find myself playing it less once I get through everything.
Although MK8 offers a better single player experience (I love Splatoons single player mode don't get me wrong, but it's way too short, even with the Amiibo), I find Splatoon to be much more addicting. I can't really remember the last time I played MK8 but I play Splatoon daily.
I played MK8 when it released and honestly quit around November of that year. The way the online handled things was garbage. It wasn't about item skill, it was all pure luck. Literally everything bad happens at the last second and you just get so tired of it. I came back in May when the AC DLC released but only played for about a week before I gave up.
Splatoon on the other hand, still has my attention (considering it was released exactly a year after MK8 and I also got it on release so it's basically the same amount of time) after all these months. I could not go a day without playing it until Christmas came around. There's so much to do and so much to work on with leveling gear and buying new weapons...
Splatoon definitely is the better choice.
And for the record, you need Wi-Fi to get the best out of both games, so if you don't have Wi-Fi you might as well not even bother getting a Wii U. These people talking solely about single player confuse me. The whole point of both is to play online.
