Splatoon Splatoon Dislike Discussion

um....this was mean to be a dislike discussion....

I really dislike that Nintendo is going to take my money in return for Splatoon, an Amiibo and a T-shirt. I'm going to be ?45 down and it's all Splatoon's fault.

I also dislike that it's probably going to make me enjoy myself. I hate fun. And all that color. *blegh*. What are they trying to do? Be visually appealing? Morons.

If color and fun is what Nintendo are trying to give me, I think I might have to go and buy an Xbone instead. Moar grai n brwn plz.

Splatoon looks really neat and unique, and I'm pretty excited for it ...but I do have some concerns.

As far as I know:
  • They're locking a ton of single-player content behind amiibos. Which are already expensive, and will likely be hard to find after release (remember Toad's for Toad Treasure Tracker? yeah.)
  • You cannot create your own custom games/lobbies.
  • There's no voice chat - even with friends - in a competitive/cooperative shooter.

And apparently the price varies an awful lot from country to country? I'm in the US and it's no cheaper than any other Nintendo game. $60 to pre-order, no amiibo bundle so those are $13 each separate or $35 for the 3-pack.
Even with only one, it becomes an $80 game to access the rest of the single-player content. With all of them? It's $100.

And don't tell me they're just rehashes of the other SP missions in-game, because they still obviously bring new things to the table:
"We've just confirmed that completing enough challenges will unlock a special challenge, and if you beat it, the amiibo will reward you with some exclusive in-game gear! Sounds like you can earn different weapons, headgear, and clothing from each Inkling amiibo."
"Amiibo challenges make up a chunk of the single player content and task you with getting through levels with a new weapon. Beating these challenges unlocks gear in the game."

I can almost understand the lack of voice chat. Nintendo is really skittish with Online stuff because "family friendly." But ffs, even Pokemon has voice chat. I realize it's not likely to be a super tactical shooter :P but cooperating with your friends means being able to communicate with them on some level.
I wouldn't care about the lack of voice chat if it were any other console or a PC game, where you can still talk to your friends outside of the game. However, the Wii U doesn't have any universal voice chat options like the other consoles do. It's game-by-game support, so if the game doesn't support it, it's not an option. Period.

There OP. Those are my negative feels for the game. :p
Problem is.. I still kinda want it, it looks really unique and fun.. But I don't know yet if I can justify the purchase price. Even $60 for the game feels steep for something focused on multiplayer. I didn't feel like I got my $60-worth with Smash, and I probably won't feel any better with Splatoon.. I'll have to wait a week or so after release and see how it goes for other people with similar concerns.

I think no matter what they did with the Amiibo support, people would have complained. So far people have complained about amiibo's being pretty much useless and offering mostly nothing in other games, Splatoon seems to be going the other way and looks to be giving a bit too much (though I'll have to play and judge for myself just how much it really is).

Though I dislike the general idea of amiibo anyway. It's DLC no matter how people try to justify it and what's worse is that it's mostly day-1/cut content/on disc DLC, all of which are among the worst kinds of DLC...Though like many people often say, "when Nintendo does it, it's somehow okay".
It annoys me that by buying amiibo because I just like the little figures, I'm supporting a horrible practice and making Nintendo think I'm okay with the idea...But if I don't buy them to 'vote with my wallet' I'm only really penalizing myself by not having nice things that I want.

Why not make dislike threads for all the games in the world .-. Haha but seriously

I wonder if it'll be those super hyped games then ends up being bad

This isn't a good game until Splotoon is announced where you play as the Octolings and kill Inklings for no reason.

Its $80 at eb games :( and its another $50 to get the three amiibos. Im still getting the game though :')

I think it would have been cool if rather than just two different colors for the different teams, one team are Inklings and the other are Octolings. Like, you could have two different customization characters (one of each of course) and which character you used depended on which team you get put on.

If you've ever seen or played it, pretty much how 'Brink' worked and how they handled their multiplayer.

Wait....This i supposed to be things I dislike....

I dislike that they didn't implement my idea into Splatoon.

Yes.

Ya know, I was going to compare the Amiibo features to Day 1 DLC, because it literally is, but I figured, like you said, the fact that Nintendo is doing it makes it somehow less bad to the majority..

I really like the idea of Amiibos - finally, I can buy cute figures of my favorite characters and they do A Thing.
But so far it's pretty much been, "Pay $13 to unlock a new costume for your Mii in MK8 or to get a randomized weapon in Hyrule Warriors."
Which I'd complain about if I were paying $13 for costume DLC in any other game, but at least here I can rationalize it as... You don't need it to feel like you got everything necessary to the game. And if you have the Amiibo, it usually carries over to another game. So it's not $13 for one game; it's a one-time cost of $13 for some piddly extra features in multiple games.

But considering these ones don't carry over to too many other games.. and where they do, all of the amiibos can be used for something insignificant, it feels more like $13 for Day 1 DLC.

On one hand, I wish Amiibos were more useful for their price. And they are here, it just feels like it was executed poorly.
But on the other, even the less useful ones are already pretty difficult to find.. it'd be hard to imagine how they'd be marketed if all of them acted like real DLC and made a significant impact on the games they work in.

?\_(ツ)_/?

You're obviously mocking the people who like it. It shows in the fact that the title of the thread is exactly the same as the hype thread, down to the smiley face and all caps. If you're that mad/upset about people being excited for a video game, perhaps it's time to take a step away from the computer for awhile.

this is really funny to me.

anyway, i actually think splatoon will be a pretty great game. it's colorful, features young people, has no excessive use of cursing/boring themes. it's just a new idea from nintendo in general and that really is something. i'd buy it within a heartbeat.
the lack of voice chat seriously bothers me though. also, like tao said, the way the game *seems to emphasize the use of amiibo looks like a bit too much.

I personally wouldn't mind them being mostly useless as long as they did something a little more specific for each game.
Giving a 1-up mushroom in Captain Toad or random item in Hyrule Warriors is too little. Splatoon sounds like a bit too much. Mario Kart 8 though was pretty much fine, I liked that, even if there were only a few costumes available. I won't even ever use the costumes, it's just nice that they're a thing and they're the sort of thing I wouldn't mind them doing in every game, stuff that doesn't actually do anything to the game.

So basically, I want amiibo to be like Team Fortress 2. I want them to give me hats.

Ok I don't like splatoon but this one of the stupidest threads I've seen

It's basically online only, and I don't exactly have game friendly internet.

I'm not getting a game where the main point is Inklings shooting ink at each other, but getting it for a silly little hero mode?

Yeah... no. Is it really that hard to slap some CPUs into offline Turf War?
