spending real money?

I wouldn't spend money on this game because I know the items being sold for irl money are usually being hacked into the game, and placing hacked items into the economy without full disclosure about it is not okay. Someone I know does this whole thing with real money and everything he sells is hacked in, but he doesn't admit that to the people he's selling to or us so it feels a bit shady imo.

But I don't judge people for spending the money. :v I mean, I've spent real money on Neopets and some would judge me for that lol. What someone does with their own personal money is not my concern.

Personally I have and never will spend money on this game to get items/furniture/villagers I want from other players. IF Nintendo plans on releasing some exclusive items or something that's provided by Nintendo themselves, then I would most definitely buy depending on if they ever do that.

Please release more storage room for me Nintendo.. I'll pay for that 😭

If it was official nintendo stuff (i.e. if they release new amiibo cards, dlc, etc.), yes. If its just for items I'm buying from someone, no.

You can get all the items in the game eventually if you play long enough, and honestly it feels really wrong to me that ppl are selling items for real money (like that one youtuber selling "landscaping services" or something for like $200 wtf)

I bought amiibo cards once but outside of that I'll only use igb or nmt.

Dang 😭😭 That sucks. They should really let people know this stuff. My dumb self thought, “Wow, these guys are so talented. How’d they get all of this stuff so fast?? 😮” I knew of the hacking issue in NL, but didn’t know of anything when it came to NH. I didn’t keep up with any news regarding glitches or hacks. I literally knew nothing about this game.. still kinda don’t 😂 but I should’ve know better since this has always been an issue in AC games. Like, deep in my gut, I knew these guys had to be hacking their games, but I was so freaking desperate for some reason. ..Looking back, it wasn’t even that serious 😂💀

I know a lot of people are new to the franchise, so it sucks that people are being scammed like this 😢 It’s best to be patient and stick with whatever DLC/ updates that Nintendo puts out just to stay safe. Oh.. and amiibo, but even those are a ripoff 😭 Curse Ebay (*꒦ິ⌓꒦ີ)

At most, I'll spend money on AC amiibo cards — though not at the moment with the current price gauging going on. For items, I tend to use Nookazon for very specific things. If you're patient, you'll find what you want and at a fair trade.

Yeah, I saw that too! 😭😭😭 People are seriously wrong for doing stuff like this. I hope nobody actually bought that 🥺

I’ve spent quite a bit on amiibo packs at this point. Kicking myself every day for not getting a bundle with a box of each series for $500, but what can you do lol. I’m not buying too many, I’m still hoping for a reprint. A few days ago I did manage to find a box of series 4 for just $80, guess that person hadn’t heard the news of the inflated prices.

The only thing I've spent real money on was amiibo, but that is something that comes directly from Nintendo. I don't like the idea of spending real money on digital goods from other people that profit off of it. That just seems underhanded and wrong to me.

I am not judging anybody that has done it. I get the idea of FOMO and need it now. I'm just sharing my opinion. And I also find it a bit funny that I have to directly state this in order to avoid misunderstandings.

i'm impatient, but i'm not that impatient. maybe it's also a pride thing, but i enjoy getting stuff like that myself. it also feels really scammy :/ and i refuse to reward that sort of behaviour.

but all the licensed nintendo stuff is totally fine, plus lets them know that we love/support the game. i've purchased amiibo cards myself for new leaf and i love having them.

Since online games were a thing, people have sold and bought items for real money (called real money trading and usually a bannable offense in online games).

It is ALWAYS risky purchasing things outside of a first party source i.e. the game/company itself. A lot of people that sell things online in bulk are from poorer countries/areas where that is their source of income (look up the term "Chinese gold farming"). Many others get those items through hacking, exploits, stealing people's accounts, and other dubious methods.

Having said that I completely understand wanting to purchase things with real money. If you value the time it would take to get those item legitimately more than the money it costs to acquire it through outsourced means AND accept the risks associated with it, that is your business.

I personally have a negative opinion of such practices, but I understand the reasons behind it.

The only time I'd ever spend money on this game is commissioning art of my villagers and my island rep. I got Raymond without spending a dime. There's literally no reason to make this a p2w game for me.

I might buy some Amiibo card packs if they become available through retail at a fair price. Not a full set or anything. And not going after one card in particular. More for just the fun of seeing what I get.

I havent, I'm poor to start with, but I don't think I'd use RLC on the game to start with aside from the online subscription and DLC (if they end up releasing them, which I almost feel doubtful they'll release paid dlc at this point) I can understand buying amiibos, I would buy one of my favorite villager or to collect them for fun, but that's about it (:

I would never because I don't need or want items that badly.

I did buy amiibos though but I don't think that counts.

the only way i'd ever spend money is on an amiibo card. and even that, i feel like is less necessary because of island hopping and grinding NMT, even though it takes more time. people asking for money for in-game items are ridiculous. it might make sense if items were limited edition, but i feel like most people will eventually get all the items anyway? it's not like the game was locked for only specific items to specific players, except maybe nook miles items but even then you can get those traded pretty easily for what you want... the trading market however for items like gulliver's items are completely whack right now and will hopefully calm down soon when supply increases to meet demand.

Can attest to this, wanted a Whirlpool bath and first person I found wanted 130k + 5NMT which I though was too much. Waited a bit and found another who just wanted something from his wishlist, one of which was a basic Ironwood Table. He seemed fine with it, but I felt bad and gave him 99k more.

I wouldn’t buy any in game items for money. In my opinion, it’s the least satisfying way to get something. In the case of villager trading for me most to least satisfying is Random Move In > Island Hopping = Campsite = Plot Hunting > Trading Online for in game items > Scanning with Amiibo > Outright buying from someone.

I spent some decent change on a few Amiibo cards for the villagers I wanted. I know the majority of members here seem opposed to this, but it was worth the money spent to me to get a dream team settled and not stress about islands or trading and it followed “the rules”. But for anything else in the game I don’t have I’m working in-game for it, so I wouldn’t want to buy a hybrid or Winter DIY etc— I want something to look forward to! I just hope there will eventually be a mechanism to acquire the two other fruits on my island now that Leif is gradually selling the non-native flowers
