spending real money?

I bought some amiibo cards in the NL update and I bought that pack with Reese, Cyrus, and KK Slider amiibos in them. But that was ages ago.

I have purchased a few amiibo of my favorite villagers, but I wouldn't pay money for in game items or villagers or nook mile tickets. I want to be able to earn my own items and nook miles (though getting them through trades is okay sometimes!). And I think amiibo are alright since it means I can always scan that villager in at any time, but I feel it would be a waste to pay someone money to just do a one time adoption.

Here's what I have bought with real money:

1) I bought a switch. Then I bought a Switch Lite so I could have a second island. Total cost for both: $503
2) I spent $297 on amiibo cards for ACNL, and luckily they work in this game too.
3) I bought two cartridge copies of the ACNH game from Amazon, and then at the last minute I downloaded it too because I was stressing out due to the pandemic situation and I just couldn't stand waiting another day (and Amazon had been late with ACNL although it was not for ACNH). Playing it that one night was worth the extra $60 since I was an emotional wreck. Total cost for copies of the game: $196

So, $503+297+196 = $996 is "all" I spent. (I LOVE ANIMAL CROSSING!) I haven't even bought Nintendo online (yet?). I might at some point I suppose. I don't buy villagers or items from people because to me that would ruin the game. YMMV of course, and does for most people I guess!

Damn haha - I did have a second Switch before I got my New Horizons Switch...but I sold it to make up for some of the cash I spent on the special ed. It's a real shame this is the alternative for wanting two islands!

I did it in NL to get in-game bells and some golden tools (I badly wanted Zucker then and couldn't afford him).
I highly doubt I'd ever do it again tbh because I already obtained Zucker and I'm just taking my time with everything this time around.
If they were to release DLC for some special items then maybe...
And, of course, I spent money on amiibo cards but that's not really the same as spending real money on in-game items.

the only "in game" stuff i'd buy would be amiibo cards. not only are they a physical collector's item but they have in game capabilities.

i'm not buying them until noa rereleases them or releases a new series. prices are too high

i would never buy anything for new horizons with rlc. my switch, online membership and actual game are obviously exceptions and maybe amiibo cards in the future, but i’d never spend rlc on items or villagers lol

I went overboard with amiibo cards when they were in stores in 2016. I traded extras though and sold my WA cards and Sanrio set for real money. I still have tons of series 1-4 so I kinda broke even in the end and reap the benefits of having a lot of amiibos to scan of I want still. I can’t say I regret purchasing any cards.

nice to know people also splurged on cards lol i bought packs back when they were in stores to get my favorites and have since sold off the villagers i didn’t want (kept all my dreamers though)

For rare items and amiibo? Sure. Real money for NMT/IGB? Err, no. The game’s economy is already ridiculously inflated and part of that reason are sellers injecting millions of bells into the game. I feel sorry for those who have no choice but to get into turnips just to keep up with the economy (me for example). Also, I believe that’s illegal lol.

Spending for in game stuff like bells, resource, villagers that are moving is not really great and is a waste of money.

I bought amiibo cards and then later nfc tags to make my own :^) cause there is no way im gonna deal with villager trading

I’m fine with spending money on home made amiibos or something, but personally I don’t think I’d ever pay for materials or items because it’s way too easy to get scammed and I’d rather trade with bells or nmt

I don't spend real money for in game items, but for anyone that does, I personally don't fault them. Yes I know that is not okay, but with the economy as it is right now, I can absolutely see why people would. You don't see it that often on this site, but people on discord are charging upwards of 10+ NMT just to catalog simple things. Not even rare, unorderables like Gulliver items. So yeah definitely understandable. Even watched a YT vid where the person admitted to spending irl money to get tickets. (I think it was like $9 for 200 tickets) And I was rooting for them the whole way through

Only thing I've spent real money on besides the systems/online/game copy is amiibo cards.
I wouldn't spend real money on in game items/nmt/bells to other users. If it was nintendo it may be different (supporting the company putting out updates/etc, trustworthy) but, even then, I probably wouldn't...all those items are easy to obtain (maybe not right away but with patience easy).

I'm also not sure of the extent of AC's/Nintendo's terms of use but I know some game companies restrict trading in-game items/services for real money. If you're caught doing it (whether you're the seller or buyer), your account is banned.
I think it's one thing to sell game themed merchandise (fan made cards, key chains, art) but another thing entirely to profit off actual game items in real money.
