Hello anime fans!

So after MUCH procrastination I went back to watch the original Dragon Ball and that was a big mistake. I am a huge fan of Dragon Ball Z, and Dragon Ball really ruined my happy memories of the francise. I'm just going to pretend it doesn't exist now...

(Like I had to do with Black Butler Season 2......in my mind Season 1 was perfect & had a beautiful ending, Season 2 just ruined everything)

I'm used to sequels doing this, and usually the original of something is better, but in my opinion Dragon Ball was horrid.
I don't want to get into an argument with fans of the first series, I just want people who understand what I'm getting at & enjoy to help me find a good series.

If you didn't like Dragon Ball either, then I won't need to go into detail as to what was wrong. You know what was wrong.

I stopped watching after the tournament with the Bacteria guy & had to skip that gross episode, and then final nail in the coffin that completely stopped me watching was the match between the most horrible female stereotype (the girl in the underwear VS the stereotype of a man from a third world country)

Anyway as a fan of Dragon Ball Z I always wanted to see an anime with the cute mishaps & feeling of Kame House.
You know, cute style of animation (almost watercolor in parts) lots of scenes where they happily eat around a table, the cute turtle, talking animals, fun on the beach & cute nostalgia & comedy & harmless innocent of a kind of idealized family/friend life.

Those scene made my heart sing! Even the minor "pervert" parts were funny in Dragon Ball Z, they weren't overdone & I didn't feel sickened or that women were laughed at--it just felt funny.

Anyone know of stuff like this?

I know of a lot of quality anime, but many are quite dark like Neon Genesis & Attack on Titan ---and I'm looking for something with a decent storyline that is also light.

I already know about Cowboy Bebop (excellent), One Piece (cute, but didn't really get into it) & Mushi Shi (I somehow found it depressing even though someone said it was relaxing--but quite clever)

and hopefully very little fanservice or those overly depressing animes that I love, but watched too many of.

Does it exist?

Let's find out. :)

*Please don't just name drop a bunch of anime that you like without reading the above*

Seriously read the whole thing.....don't just scan for names, some of the names I've mentioned are as a comparison point for what I'm NOT looking for. You need to read everything in context.
Anyway the first comment answered the question, and understood what I was going for.

Natsume Yuujinchou sounds like something you'd like. Some others off the top of my head are Non Non Biyori (more slice of life without much plot than anything, though), Gin no Saji, and Barakamon.

Well I haven't really been into anime for awhile, but maybe Fullmetal Alchemist? I found it pretty good but it's plot is kinda depressing.

You should watch Spongebob, it's kinda plotless but it's nice

Might I recommend Gintama? It's pretty much an all-in-one anime that includes breaking the 4th wall, being stupid, action-packed, and comedic~

Now if you want overly depressing, then I highly recommend Rainbow Nisha Rokubou no Shichinin. It may not incredibly sad at one point, but it all builds up to a violently painful turning point.

Wow! :) Thanks so much, first comment & aome decent suggestions by the looks of things. :)
After a quick scan I can see these all look innocent & funny.

Natsume Yuujinchou seems to have good reviews & I liked what people said about it.

Barakamon looks like it would be the funniest & even has the Island!

Gin no Saji has a good premise as well--so many animes about high school students--never watched one were they go to a farm. This also intrigued me.

Non Non Biyori also appealed to me because it's nice to see some sweet & pretty girls that are literally children & not going to be objectified. That would be refreshing for me.

Which one did you enjoy the most?
What did you remember the most about each?

I'd say out of all the ones I recommended, I loved Gin no Saji the most. I expected it to be some boring farm anime but it was actually really entertaining and good. Second best was probably Non Non Biyori, followed by Barakamon (great ED, too) and then Natsume. I put Natsume last because although it has a relaxing atmosphere, I found myself a bit too bored by it sometimes because it's a little too relaxing for me. Regardless, it is a great anime.

Oh no! :) lol ^ I said I don't want the depressing ones because I have already watched many & anime has some of the best sad stories---but I'm in the need for happiness. :) But thank you anyway. :)

I have seen some of Full Metal Alchemist (Brotherhood) & yes it's good storyline the parental loss & the chimeras were faaaaar too sad...even though the scenes with the lil brother are indeed cute.
I stopped watching after the chimera scene. Gave me nightmares.

As for the Gintama recommendation--yeah! :) I watched some of that & was going to finish it---it had a lot to like. It didn't have me as addicted as most, but your on the right path.
I might finish that at some point, it was pretty fun! :) I loved the whole "odd jobs" concept.

I LOVE Spongebob---it's technically not usually considered an anime---but yes I loved that cartoon & it made me laugh. Most things made by Nickelodeon made me laugh. :)

*person saying I shouldn't watch anime---too late, I've watched it for years & loved it, just because you may not like what I'm going for you can just ignore my post.*

I liked the concept of having a trio consist of a girl with herculean strength, a wavy haired cheapskate, and then there's that one person who just looks casual as all heck. xD

And ah, I'm sorry, I guess I read it wrong(Must be what I get for staying up so late x.x). How about Bobobo bobobo? It's essentially Gintama but with less order, logic, and more comedy. Oh! and lots of stretchy nose hairs! xD

You should watch Spongebob, it's kinda plotless but it's nice

i dont recall spongebob being close to an anime
or im probably just blind to the fact that the post was most likely sarcasm

--

if you liked attack on titan, you'll definitely like sword art online as well. i'd rather not explain the anime unless you dont mind spoilers, because without the spoilers..my description of it will sound pretty boring. if you need to, look through the summary and reviews on myanimelist

just a bit of advice; i dont recommend deciding all the animes to watch through full reviews and everything bc one, it spoils most of the anime, and two, based off what other people say about it, it'll probably give off a bad impression of the anime causing you to not watch it when really, it could be amazing. i misconceived so much anime just for having bad reviews and being mainstream & i regret doing so (fullmetal alchemist, naruto, aku no hana, etc)

but everyone has their own ways of deciding of which anime to watch, whichever method you use is fine. i just want to make sure you dont prevent yourself from watching possibly perfect animes haha

I highly recommend this show. Best anime I've seen.

^ nah, I'm looking specifically for happy animes right now. (it's in the OP) Seen many fantastic sad & deep/mindbending ones already. :) Thanks though.

Please don't be sarcastic to the person recommending Spongebob, it's not Japanese animation, however it is a funny cartoon & I'm not bothered by the recommendation.
You also didn't read the OP because I asked for something light & pleasant, so although it may not be anime, their answer was a bit more on point!

Let's be nice OK. :)

So you're basically saying spongebob isn't animation. uh..

Don't worry Izzy, as I said above your recommendation was actually more on point than thiers!

You may not have recommended Japanese animation, but you did get the theme I specifically asked for (light & comedic) and they didn't, so there was no need to be sarcastic to you.

I'm simply stating this as a fact, but I'd prefer we (everyone) stayed nice to each other. It's ok.:)

None of the arguments people could have answer the question anyway.

If you're looking for light and comedic and Japanese, I suggest Lucky Star. It's again kinda plotless but it's interesting.

If you want something weird, try FLCL

If you want slice of life/comedy, try Saint Young Men

If you want over the top adventure, try Gurren Lagann

If you want cheesy Shounen, try Jojo's Bizarre Adventure

If you want something like Disney, try Little Witch Academia

If you want something sad, try playing Mother 3 Angel Beats

If you want to disappoint your parents, try Monster Musume

Do these relate to what I meant in the OP though? Or are these just anime you recommend in general?

Because the request is very specific & so far only the first commented has really nailed it.
